  10. Reference Letters You need at least 3 letters of reference Ask them EARLY! Complete the Word document and Email to them along with a link to submission process. http://grants.nih.gov/grants/forms/reference-letter.htm Give them a Deadline 5 days prior to the NIH Deadline

  11. Submission process Will be submitted by OSP (Office of Sponsored Programs) Route the proposal to OSP 7 Business days prior to the NIH deadline via an eGC1 with all Business Documents final and with draft version of Science. Route the FINAL, ready to submit, version to OSP, ideally 5 Business days prior to the NIH deadline. (Anything less than 3 days and your proposal will not be submitted) . OSP will submit to NIH. You will receive emails during the submission process Dates are indicated on my Checklist

  12. AWARD! You will be notified by NIH if your score is within their fundable range. They will most likely ask you for additional information. Does not mean you will receive an award. This information must go through OSP. I will help you with that. Together we ll complete the Activation Notice. Once NIH sends UW the award document, we ll set you up in payroll and process your tuition credit. Feel free to contact us to make sure everything is in process!

  13. Misc Ask successful students for a copy of their proposal Be prepared to draft letters of references and/or letters of support. This is common. Have someone outside the field review your proposal. Few proposals are funded on the first round. If yours isn t funded resubmit in the next round. NIH recognizes that the stipend doesn t cover much and they allow part-time employment. Ask Epi Student Academic Services prior to accepting any UW employment.
