  4. WORK SAFELY ALWAYS A IMPORTANT NOTICES ~ This alerts you about im- portant messages in- volving your safety. warning sign This tractor has been designed and manufactured specifically and solely for agricultural use. Any other application will be considered non compatible with the use envisaged by the Manufacturer, who, consequently, cannot be held responsable for allY damage to things or to the machine itself of for any physical injury to people deriving from uses other than agricultural ones. Always consider that with the improper use of this tractor you would also assume the personal responsibility for any consequence associated with it. The respect of the rules for tractor use, maintenance and repairs given in this Manual is an essential element qualifying the correct use of the machine as envisaged by the Manufacturer. This machine must be used, serviced or repaired only by people previously instructed on its handling features and safety rules besides being specifically authorized to operate it. The user is always reponsible for the strict observance of general safety and accident prevention rules as well as of the traffic regulations if driving the tractor on public or open roads. Any un-authorized and arbitrary modification made on this machine will relieve the Manufacturer of all responsibilities for any deriving damage or injury. The Manufacturer and all the Organizations associated with its distribution network, including but not limited to national, regional or local distributors, decline any and all responsibilities for damages that may derive from the abnormal performance and behaviour of machine parts or components not specifically authorized by the Manufacturer, including the ones used for the maintenance and/or repair of products fabricated or distributed by the Manufacturer. In any case, no warranty of any sort is issued or prescribed, regarding products fabricated or distributed by the Manufacturer, against damages deriving from abnormal behaviOUr of parts and/or components not authorized by the same Manufacturer. Read these safety rules attentively and strictly follow suggested precau- tions designed to avoid any potential danger and safeguard your health and personal safety. You will find, throughout this Manual, the above warning sign associated with the following keywords: ATTENTION - A warning intended to prevent unsuitable repair proce- dures with potential consequences to the repairman's safety. DANGER - Associated with warn- ings for specific potential danger to the repairman and to any other peo- ple directly or indirectly involved. 2

You will find a specialized and experienced service staff fully prepared to help you solve any problem related to the operation and use of your tractor. An extended network of Fiatagri Dealers, equipped with all necessary means to perform servicing, repair and overhauling work, is at your disposal. 4

  7. Servicing These tractors were designed with the Owner in mind and al/ efforts have been made to simplify servicing. The purpose of this handbook is to familiarise the operator with the operation and regular servicing of the tractor. Remember that the time spent on maintenance extends the life of your tractor. Pay special attention to the instructions covering fuel filtering, air cleaner maintenance and lubrication. Badly filtered fuel results in injection system deterioration and irregular air cleaner maintenance leads to premature engine wear, note that a tractor oil change every 200 hours is equivalent to a truck oil change every 8,000 to 9,000 km. Spare parts Use genuine FIATAGRI parts only. When filling your orders be sure to quote (see page 7): - Tractor Model and Frame Number. - Engine Type and Number. - The Part No. of the spare needed (listed in the Spare Parts Catalogue). 5

  8. Tractor identifi- cation data: A = Tractor data plate indicating chassis and Engine Type. B = Engine Type and Number. C = Chassis Type and Number. D = Cab data plate. 7

  9. Safety precautions GENERAL Replacement parts packaging con- taining these items are labelled with this warning symbol: ~ .. The tractor should be operated only by responsible persons suitably trained and duly authorized. .. Your tractor was designed with safety very much in mind. However, there is no real substitute for caution and attention in preventing accidents. Once an accident has happened it is too late to think about what you should have done. .. Keep a first aid kit handy. Inhaling asbestos powder is danger- ous to health. Always, when working with parts containing asbestos, the following precautions are a must: Any asbestos powder found on the machine or produced working on its components must be re- moved an eliminated by extraction methods, never by dusting, blow- ing or brushing. Asbestos powder resisues must be completely dampened, put in- side properly identified containers to make sure they will be safely disposed of. Should components containing asbestos need to be cut, drilled or ground, the part should be dam- pened in the first place and then processed exclusively by hand tools or power tools operated at low speeds. .. Do not work with loose garments that could get caught in moving parts. Check that all rotating parts con- nected to the PTO shaft are well shielded. .. Read this manual carefully before attempting to start, operate, service or refuel the tractor. A few minutes read- ing will save time and trouble later. .. Read and heed all mounted safety stickers before re- fueling or servicing the machine and replace any missing stickers. machine .. Remember that your tractor has been designed exclusively for agricul- tural use. Any other application must first be authorized by the manufac- turer. ill Some parts installed on your machine, such as engine gaskets, may contain asbestos-base materials. 8

  10. III Do not attempt to increase the max. engine rpm by altering the injec- tion pump governor setting. STARTING THE TRACTOR III Before starting the engine check that the parking brake is on and the gear and PTO levers are in neutral, even if your tractor is fitted with a start inhibiting device. Never bypass the start inhibitor switch. Consult trained service staff of the Fiatagri Service Network for repair if the start inhibitor is not operating correctly. III Do not alter the relief valve setting of the hydraulic systems (power steering, hydraulic lift, external control valves, etc.). III Do not operate tractor if you feel unwell. Stop working rather than risk an accident. III Make sure all implements are fully lowered before starting. III Do not run the engine in closed premises without adequate ventilation as exhaust fumes are deadly. III Ensure that all guards and protec- tive devices are correctly installed before starting the tractor (safety frame or cab, hood side panels, PTO guard, front axle drive shaft guard etc.). III Always use steps and grab handles when getting on or off the tractor. III Never work without the roll-over protection frame or cab correctly fitted to tractor. Check that the fasteners are not loose and that the frame is not damaged in any way. Do not alter the cab by welding or drilling as this may impair the rigidity of the roll-over frame. III Do not attempt to start or man- oeuvre the tractor unless you are sitting in operator's seat. (( III Ensure that there are no persons or obstacles within range before start- ing the tractor. 9

  11. OPERATION II Always operate the tractor at a safe speed for the type of ground being worked. Reduce speed on slopes and bends to prevent rollover. II Select the track width most suit- able to the work in hand, keeping tractor stability in mind. II When working on gradients, i.e. uphill and downhill, do not drive too fast, particularly when turning. II Apply the clutch gradually: abrupt engagement, particularlyafterdigg ing operations, or work in ditches or on muddy ground, or steep uphill, work could cause the tractor to pitch dangerously. Disengage the clutch immediately if the front wheels start to rise. II Take great care when operating with the wheels near the edge of a bank. II Always keep the tractor in gear when going downhill. Do not coast downhill in neutral or with the clutch disengaged. II When the tractor is moving, the driver should always be sitting in the operator's seat. II Do not get on or off a moving tractor. II Whenever you use the brake, al- ways press the brake pedal gently. II Do not corner at high speed. 10

  12. TOWING AND TRANSPORT Adjust the towing attachment cor- rectly for the trailer or to the imple- ment to be towed in order to maintain tractor stability . (See Important on page 58). Drive slowly when towing heavy trailers. USE OF AGRICUL TURAL IMPLEMENTS AND MACHINERY Unless your tractor is fitted with a supplementary, regularly homolo- gated passenger seat, never carry any passengers, not even in"side the cab. Always use implements or machin- ery rated for use with your tractor. Never use machinery designed for more powerful tractors. For safety reasons, trail?rs should not be towed unless equip'ped with a trailer braking system. Do not negotiate tight bends with the PTO under heavy load as this could damage the drive shaft univer- sal joints connected to the PTO itself. Respect the highway code on road hauls. Always use the drawbar when tow- ing heavy loads. Do not tow from the 3-point hitch links as the tractor could pitch. Do not ride the brake and clutch pedals when travelling. When coupling, never stand bet- ween the tractor and the implement while the tractor is being backed up. Latch the brake pedals on road hauls; otherwise, dangerous skidding may occur when braking. Do not overwork the brakes: change down a gear down to slow the tractor. When towing, do not negotiate bends with the differential lock en- gaged; otherwise you may not be able to steer the tractor. When using implements with trac- tor stationary and engine running, keep the range box idling, engage the hand brake and use the stop chokes. 11

  13. !!Ii Return the gear lever to neutral, disengage the PTO, apply the parking brake, stop the engine and engage a gear before leaving the tractor seat. Always remove the ignition key be- fore leaving the tractor unattended. IilI Park the tractor on level ground if possible, engage a gear and apply the parking brake. On gradients, apply the parking brake and first gear uphill and reverse gear downhill. For greater safety, use the optional chock (available on request); this is especially important with a trailer on tow. Apply trailer hand brake. III Never operate a PTO driven imple- ment without first ensuring that no one is on the machine or near its working range. Check that all rotating parts con- nected to the PTO shaft are well shielded. TRACTOR SERVICING III Install rear ballasts when using front lifting equipment. IIlII Allow the engine to cool down before removing radiator cap; with the engine shut off, turn the cap to re- lease pressure before removing the cap completely. STOPPING THE TRACTOR l1li Never leave implements in the raised position with the tractor statio- nary: lower them down before shut- ting the engine off. IIlII Disconnect the battery earth lead before starting any work on the elec- trical system. 12

  15. A CAUTION A In some of the photographs in this manual, panels or covers have been removed for illustrative purposes. Never operate tractor without these panels or shields removed. While making arch weldings on the tractor or attached implements, to avoid damaging the electronic equip- ment installed on the tractor itself, ca- refully comply with the instructions given at page 69. III Ensure that hydraulic system is not under pressure before disconnecting any lines. Do not fill the tank completely when tractor is to be operated in strong sunlight, as the fuel could expand and leak. Any leaking fuel should be wiped off immediately. III Leaks of pressurized oil could cause serious injury. It is therefore necessary to use protective shields and wear glasses and gloves when tracing oil leaks. Tractor fuel may be dangerous. Never refuel with the tractor in mo- tion, near an open flame, with the engine hot or when smoking. III Before attempting to inspect, clean, adjust, repair or service the tractor or the attached implement in any way, ensure that the engine is off, the transmission in neutral and the brakes applied, the PTO is disen- gaged and all moving parts are statio- nary. Always keep a fire extinguisher within reach. III Work on tyres should be carried out only by experienced personnel using proper equipment. Incorrect tyre installation could cause a serious accident. If in doubt, apply to qualified personnel for help. 13
