If not then you can start with the specialty advising directors who may direct you to other faculty in their specialty based on your interests. *if the faculty member you d like to select isn t a choice in OASIS, contact Emma Faustner to have them added to the system. It s a good idea to contact that individual first to ask if they are willing to advise you.

I have no idea what I want to be when I grow up! for the purposes of the lotteries you may choose your PCR mentor to be your specialty advisor in OASIS. If you are undecided or torn between a couple different specialties then please meet with Dr. Karen George, Dr. Ellen Kulaga, Dr. Mariah McNamara, or Dr. Justin DeAngelis (drop-ins available on web version of Weekly Wire) to talk about your approach to advanced integration in preparation for residency application.

  9. How many Acting Internships (AIs) do I have to do? A minimum of 2 Internal Medicine AI A second AI of your choice A Surgery AI may count as the Surgery Subspecialty Requirement but it can not also count as your second AI Unfortunately, we do not offer acting internships in pathology, radiology, emergency medicine, or anesthesia **You can swap AIs but can not drop them (medicine, pediatrics)

  10. Will there be housing available for those students interested in doing electives in Danbury or Norwalk? Class of 2024 students in the CT cohort will be completing Advanced Integration clinical rotations available to them in CT. This includes the Medicine Acting Internship and Emergency Medicine. Class of 2024 students in the VT or LIC cohorts who wish to complete rotations should contact Dr. Ellen Kulaga or Dr. Karen George to discuss their options. VT Advanced Integration courses are available to all students except for the examples provided above. Housing options will be discussed on a case-by-case basis with CT and VT cohort students based on their individual interests and needs.

ACLS Certification Must be done before graduation Will be scheduled by the Clinical Simulation Lab CT Branch Campus students have the option of completing training in CT Electives Elective rotations to total 28 weeks May include 4 weeks of USMLE Study Period (MD-1080) to prepare for Step 2 No limit on clinical versus non-clinical electives

  13. These rotations can be done in the same subspecialty or two different subspecialties including: Anesthesia* (ANES 9550) Pediatric Surgery What are the surgery subspecialties? Cardiothoracic Surgery Plastic Surgery Gynecologic Oncology contact Sara Tourville SICU Interventional Radiology (RAD 7520) Surgical Oncology Neurosurgery Trauma Surgery Ophthalmology Urogynecology (OBGY4526) Orthopedic Surgery Vascular Surgery Otolaryngology Other subspecialties may be considered but the criteria include pre-operative assessment, intra-operative assessment, and post-operative management. *Anesthesia may only be used toward 2 weeks of this requirement.   14. I want to be a surgeon. Do I have to choose the Surgery Major? No. The choice to pursue the Surgery Major is based on your educational goals. Students interested in General Surgery will usually choose the Surgery Major, however it is not a requirement.

  15. Is there anything else required aside from EM, Med AI, second AI and surgery subspecialties?

Teaching / Scholarly Project Options: Teaching in a VIC Foundations Course Research and communication Exemptions: Deadline January 15, 2023 PhD or Master s Degree in a scientific discipline Significant laboratory experience and first authorship Masters or doctorate in education with scientific focus Teaching certificate and one year s experience teaching in a scientific field.

  17. Can I do a scholarly project with non-UVM faculty? Scholarly project work may be under the supervision of non-UVM faculty however, a UVM faculty member must be the faculty of record to provide oversight (review of the work) and assign a grade for a required LCOM course. In other words, if you plan to conduct research in plastic surgery in New Jersey, discuss this project with a local faculty mentor who can sign off on the project completion.

  18. How does vacation time work? Students get 6 weeks of vacation time to schedule whenever they wish. Vacation must be added in OASIS as MD 007 and is available in 1-week blocks starting every Monday throughout the year. Study time for Step 2CK (MD 1080) is separate and counts as elective time. 4 weeks are allowed for Step 2 study. It can be scheduled in 2-week blocks. Study time must be used prior to taking the exam. In addition to the 6 weeks of vacation, there are several gap weeks throughout the year in between scheduled rotation blocks. These gap weeks do not need to be added as vacation.

  19. Can I take time to study for Step 2? Yes! There is a 4-week allowance for studying for Step 2. Typically, students should take Step 2 CK in order for scores to be released when applications are reviewed (late- September for ERAS or earlier for SF, Urology, Canadian, Military match). Step 2 CK with a passing score is a graduation requirement.

  20. What should you do before the lottery? Test your OASIS log in Request your specialty advisor in OASIS Meet with your specialty advisor or a Dean for Students to review options for planning your schedule.

Did you experience or observe any disrespectful or unprofessional behavior(s) during this clerkship? 2. Confidential Web Based Learning Environment Reporting form: http://www.med.uvm.edu/mededucation/learningoverview Access form by scanning QR code found on your badge (PW on badge). These reports go directly to the Director of the Learning Environment. They are de-identified and adjudicated by the LEAP Committee. No action is taken until grades are closed!
