Purpose of Milligan Academy
 
 
Milligan Academy is an alternative education program designed to provide the
structure, instruction, social skills training and career planning necessary for
at-risk students to successfully earn a high school diploma.
 
As an integral part of the education continuum, Milligan Academy strives to
prepare students for responsible citizenship, employment and educational
opportunities following graduation.

Dress Code
 
Pants
Tan pants, or knee-length tan shorts–
NO, athletic pants, yoga pants, leggings (denim or knit)
must be worn at the natural waistline with no view of undergarments
the hems should not drag on the ground.
pants should be buttoned and zipped
Denim jeans free of rips, tears, or holes
Tops
Black shirts or sweatshirts with no writing or design.  Brand logos are acceptable
 
Attendance Policy
 
Students are expected to be present every day unless there is an appropriate reason for being
absent. The school is required to report a student to the Regional Office of Education upon the
fifth, tenth, and eighteenth unexcused absence.
Students must be called in by 8:45 am (morning class) and 12:15 pm (afternoon class) to be
counted as an excused absence.
School attendance is based upon instructional minutes.  State guidelines mandate the following
requirements:
300 minutes or more = 1 credited day
299 minutes to 150 minutes = ½ credited day
149 minutes or less = zero credit
 
Disciplinary Actions
 
Disciplinary actions are consequences assigned to students for the disruption of the school environment during and
immediately before or after school hours, as well as, on or off school grounds at a school activity.  Disciplinary actions

Following repeated disciplinary actions, a conference will be held to determine continued enrollment at Milligan
Academy.

Administration have assigned the students to
an AM or PM in-person schedule. NO
CHANGES WILL BE MADE!
AM Classes:  8:00am-10:40am
PM Classes:  11:20 am-2:00 pm
Distance Learning:  20 minutes of work will be
assigned to the students per class.  Students
will also receive work for a Social Emotional
class (5th period).
Students will receive full schedule on
registration day.
The student handbook will be discussed in
detail on the first day of attendance.
Behavior, attendance and distance learning
will be discussed in further detail on that day
also.

Weather Days: Snow or Temperature days will
be announced on the school’s Facebook and
App (form to be picked up at registration)
 
Our building is secure: locked doors, security
cameras and a security guard. Student and
Staff safety are priorities!
 
Cell phones, keys and wallet are allowed but
the student must check those items at the
front door with the staff. This is discouraged
because all items stay locked until dismissal
and no usage allowed during the school day.
 
POlicies and Guidelines 2020/2021
 
Please make sure to follow IDPH, ISBE and the CDC guidelines when entering
the building.  Signs will be posted at the entrance and throughout the
building.
Masks must be worn by ALL while in the building.
Temperature checks will be conducted upon entrance. Students will be sent
home if ANY one symptom is displayed of COVID 19. (Information in
Registration Packet).
Directional signs will be placed around the building.
Please stay 6 feet apart at all times.

  3. Attend school daily. Complete assigned schoolwork. Speak respectfully to peers and adults. Respond respectfully to staff requests. Follow school/classroom rules. Student Responsibility

  4. Check childs wellness prior to leaving the home, any symptoms please keep child at home and contact the school. Participation in scheduled conferences. Provide updated address, phone number and emergency number for their student. Make sure to bring all contact information to registration, paperwork needs to be filled out while in the building. Disciplinary actions include: DETENTION A detention may be assigned to a student if a verbal reprimand does not appropriately address the seriousness of the disruption. IN-SCHOOL SUSPENSION (ISS). Students may be placed in ISS for a variety of reasons. During ISS, students will be assigned a seat/location. ISS expectations include: OUT-OF-SCHOOL SUSPENSION Out-of-school suspension may be assigned to stress that serious infractions will not be tolerated. Parents must participate in a re-entry conference by phone or in person. Students returning to school following an out-of- school suspension will serve a minimum of one day in ISS.
