  2. Outcomes Replicate the process to create a rigorous set of lessons or a course that is aligned to math practice and content standards and is connected to the immediate community and careers within it

  7. Elevator Pitch The problem Jane spent $42 for shoes. This was $14 less than twice what she spent for a blouse. How much was the blouse? The International Space Agency has finally landed a robotic explorer on an extra-solar planet. Some probes are extended from the lander's body to conduct various tests. To demonstrate the crushing weight of gravity on this planet, the lander's camera is aimed at a probe's ground-level ejection port, and the port launches a baseball directly upwards at 147 feet per second (ft/s), about the top speed of a professional pitcher. The force due to gravity on this planet is 98 ft/s2. Assuming no winds and that the probe can scurry out of the way in time, how long will it take for the ball to smack back into the surface?

  13. Process for Developing Community Involvement Contacts Ways to develop community contacts/establish community partnerships: Developing marketing and public relations communication tools that support this philosophy is important. Networking with civic/professional organizations. The community involvement point person from the school needs to establish his/her own reputation and relationship with key professional organizations, so that these organizations feel comfortable and interested in partnering. The entire school faculty and staff should share any community contacts they can to help grow the network Parents can and should be called upon for their connections. The school should be presented to potential community partners as an active and key component in the economic pipeline of the community. Inviting guest speakers to visit the school as wells as developing community events that allow for quality interactions between students and community/professionals is another great way to grow the commitment to these partnerships.
