  1. Translating Math and English

  2. Three times a number, increased by 1 is 25.

  3. If 3 is added to twice a number, the result is 17.

  4. When a number is increased by 8, the result is 13.

  5. Sally is 4 years older than Tim. Together, the sum of their ages is 20. How old is each?

  6. Dori used all of her seashells to decorate picture frames. Each frame use 6 shells. How many picture frames did she decorate? Dori had 72 shells.

  7. James is three times as old as Carmen. Together, their ages add up to 24. How old is each?

  8. What is a numerical expression for dividing a dozen into four groups?

  9. What is a numerical expression for increasing a number five times then adding 3?

  10. Four times a number, increased by 3 is the same as twice the number, increased by 9.

  11. Three times a number, increased by 7, gives the same result as four times the number, increased by 5.

  12. If 7 is added to twice a number, the result is the same as if 11 is added to the number itself.

  13. 3 more than five times a number, is the same as 18 more than twice the number.

  14. Jim is 2 years older than 3 times his little brother, Tommy. Together their ages add up to 18. How old is each?

  15. John is 6 years older than Kathy. Together, their ages equal four times Kathy s age. How old is each?

  16. Four times a number, diminished by 6, yields the same result as twice the same number, increased by 4.
