Math and Art Connection

An overview of our learning

How are volcanoes formed?
Session 1
Where in the world are volcanoes?
What does a volcano look like on the inside?
What is an eruption like?

Week 1 - How are volcanoes formed?

Tasks
Identify and name the layers of the
Earth
Understand how tectonic plates work
Explain the link between plate
tectonics and the formation of
volcanoes

Look at the following slides of
different volcanoes.

Volcanoes

Over the next few weeks, you will learn a lot more
about volcanoes.
Think about what you already know about volcanoes
and what you would like to find out.
Watch this YouTube video clip about the layers of the
Earth.

On the next slide there are a set of instructions for
making a play dough Earth. Hopefully, you have got
some play dough or maybe try to make some?
You may also want to listen to this video clip sharing a
song about the different layers of the earth? Have a
listen…

about plate tectonics…

Now check if you have completed your
tasks for this week…

Tasks

Identify and name the layers of the Earth
(If you haven’t made a play dough Earth, think of a different way you
could show the layers of the Earth).
Understand how tectonic plates work
(How could you show this? Can you draw something or maybe record a
description or write what you have learnt).

Explain the link between plate tectonics and the formation of
volcanoes
(How can you show the link between them? Drawing something,
producing a table or chart? Use your creative imaginations children).

REMEMBER to send me photos on Class Dojo to show me and your
friends what you’ve achieved.

FACTS to remember !
How are volcanoes formed?

The broken bits of the crust (plates)
sometimes overlap and one plate goes
under the other, causing a melting of the
crust and a build-up of heat. This heat
forces itself upwards and breaks out
through the crust as a
volcano
.

The relationship between math and art is a fascinating blend of creativity and logic. Math provides the structure and patterns that drive artistic expression, while art adds beauty and emotion to mathematical concepts. From Leonardo Da Vinci's golden ratio to M.C. Escher's mind-bending illustrations, discover how these two seemingly different disciplines intersect and inspire each other.
