Introduction What: Formal means of Communication (to many people or one to many) Purpose: To announce/ display information to specific group of people Pinned up like this on specific display boards in schools/ public places Definition: A small message written by an individual, a group, an organization or a body to draw attention of the readers to a certain issue that needs immediate attention or active participation. Structure (key points): Precise, Attractive, Simple
Why do we write a notice? A notice conveys information in a comprehensive manner. It is usually an advance information about: A happening General instructions An event A function An inauguration A Programme It could also be A notice for lost or found Public notices
Requirements (where) Cultural announcement Academic announcement Sport announcement Job announcement Announcement of births and deaths Celebrations Commercial activities i.e. in inauguration and sales, schedules and re-schedules of transport etc.
What should a Notice contain? Always write notice in a box Name of the organization/individuals issuing notice A headline/title - NOTICE Catchy headline to introduce the subject Date of issuance Content/ Body of the notice (Precise, Attractive, Simple) Writer s signature, name and designation
Points to Remember: 5Ws What is going to happen: Event Where it is going to happen: Venue When it is going to happen: Date and Time Who is the target audience/group Whom to contact for any clarity/further information
Other Important Points In Passive Voice Write in a box Word limit: 40-50 (only word in the body counted) Clear information Should not cause any misunderstanding or confusion Catchy, appealing attract attention at once Bold letters, catchy slogans, striking words/ phrases No personal pronouns Short but grammatically accurate sentences
