A. INTRODUCTION WARNING Indicates a potentially hazardous situation that, if not avoided, could result in death or injury. It is also used to alert against unsafe practices. serious A.1 About the manual The FRONTIER firm ( Manufacturer ) designed and created the device in accordance with the associated safety standards to ensure the safety of personnel and the entire operating system. CAUTION Indicates a potentially hazardous situation that, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury. It is also used as a reminder of good safety practices. Each rake is supplied with a copy of this manual which the operator must read in full before using the equipment. The manual contains all information relating to transportation, use and maintenance of the equipment, as well as safety instructions. IMPORTANT The operator must take the respective information into account. Poor knowledge of the operating system can lead to accidents and therefore damage to the equipment. Although the Manufacturer provides the Customer with all information relating to the rake operation, use and maintenance, the Customer is still expected to read this manual and take note of all the instructions herein. Note indicates that the information referred to can facilitate the operator work. A.2 Identification An identification plate is affixed to each machine: The manual provides all the necessary instructions on how to ensure optimal working order and safety. The manual was drawn up according to the current technical and structural characteristics of three models of rake and does not cover previous similar models. The Manufacturer therefore reserves the right to modify models in production in the interest of improvement or due to any new legislation (Machinery Directive), without being obliged to modify previous models. This manual is integral to the rake and must therefore be kept intact, clean and in good condition. It should also be in a container, either on the frame of the rake or in the tractor cabin, where it can be easily accessed for consultation. The manual must be kept in its container if the rake is taken out of service. Ask the Manufacturer for a duplicate copy if the original manual is lost. Please contact the FRONTIER Dealer for any clarifications relating to the instructions in this manual. You must have this information at hand when requesting assistance and spare parts. Symbols used in this manual: IMPORTANT HAZARD or DANGER Indicates an imminently hazardous situation that, if not avoided, will result in death or injury; It is strictly forbidden to alter and/or eliminate the data on the serial plate. The operator must check the legibility of the data on a regular basis and inform the Manufacturer if it becomes in any way illegible. serious 5

B. SAFETY WARNING Loading and unloading can involve a certain element of risk and must be carried out taking all due precautions. B.1 General rules This manual describes the safety regulations to be followed when using the rake. As most work-related accidents occur due to non-compliance with the most basic of safety regulations, it is obligatory to read this manual before using the rake and to follow all the instructions. The equipment must be used by qualified adult personnel trained in its use. The Manufacturer cannot be held liable for accidents due to the operator's negligence and/or non-compliance with the safety instructions. In this case the Manufacturer assumes no responsibility and the warranty is forfeited. Always take the following precautions: - Loading/unloading must be carried out on a flat surface and at a safe distance from slopes or ditches; - Always make sure the ramps are strong enough to withstand the rake weight (see the specification table shown in this manual), are firmly attached to the vehicle and are parallel to each other and perpendicular with the edge of the vehicle; B.2 Transportation, Installation and Movement Transportation (delivery): the device is fully dismantled and placed transportation. The Frontier Dealer can then re- assemble the parts quickly and easily on receipt, following the detailed instructions. - Ensure the ramps are clean, without any traces of oil, grease or ice; in a crate for - Never change direction when moving the rake onto or off the vehicle. If necessary, move the rake back down the ramp to turn it around. If the rake is sold or handed over to another user, the rake can be dismantled by following the instructions in reverse order, although it can also be delivered fully assembled. If the distance and conditions are such that the rake cannot be transported by road hitched to the tractor, it can be easily put on a suitable means of transport, as illustrated below. Installation: the rake must only ever be attached to an agricultural tractor with hitch, auxiliary universal three-point coupling and hydraulic lift. IMPORTANT The tractor must also, by law, be fitted with a protective roll-bar or ROPS or FOPS cabin. It is strictly forbidden to install the rake on a tractor without the required protection equipment. The rake is loaded or unloaded via a ramp attached to the vehicle. The equipment, when ready for transportation, is reversed onto the vehicle, then harnessed in place and fitted with all necessary safety devices for transportation. IMPORTANT Do not forget that, for transportation and handling, the rake must be in its transport configuration as described in the chapter Moving the rake . Prior to installation, however, the Customer must check the tractor maintenance manual to make sure the tractor is compatible with rake, and whether ballasts are needed to prevent unbalance that could cause it to tip over. operating and Fig.2 CATENE O TIRANTI CHAINS or TIE-RODS CATENE O TIRANTI CHAINS or TIE-RODS CUNEI WEDGES 7
Instructions on installation of the rake and hydraulic connections are described in the section Installation . putting the moveable frame in transport configuration:remove the R pin on the frame-locking bracket device and push the latter down to its respective stop. Fasten down the device by inserting the respective R pin. IMPORTANT This device affixes the moveable frame to the fixed frame, preventing damage to the rake and/or tractor. their Moving the rake: this rake must be hitched to the back of an agricultural tractor. The complete vehicle (the tractor with rake) does not require any luminous or acoustic signalling devices or panels when used in cultivated fields. You must however do the following for road circulation: b. check the fixed frame to ensure the two hydraulic valves, respective hydraulic cylinders, are open or in the position shown in fig.4. How to fold the side-delivery rake (when in its work configuration): situated on their a. STEP 1: fasten the moveable frame with their respective devices (as shown in fig.3). Do this before frame-locking bracket c. STEP 2: start up the tractor. Wait for a few Fig.3 Hydraulic valves STEP 1 Fig.4 Additional-optional center wheel (kicker wheel) Fig.6 Fig.5 STEP 2 WORKING CONFIGURATION TRANSPORT CONFIGURATION Fig.6a Fig.7 8
TRANSPORT CONFIGURATION ALSO ON THE LEFT SIDE minutes then use the control lever for the auxiliary hydraulic circuit (in the tractor cab) to raise the rake moveable frame (fig.5), fully retracted their respective hydraulic cylinders. Note: if mounted, the additional-optional center wheel (the kicker wheel, shown in fig.6) will be raised together with the two moveable frames as its own cylinder is extended at the same time. Put the safety block on cylinder rod and lock it by using a R cotter pin (fig.6a). e. STEP 3 (rear overall dimensions): the operator must check that the necessary panels reflective decals are applied on the three sides of rake visible of the equipment. They must be two red retro-reflective strips, four yellow retroreflective strips and one red retroreflective SMV triangle (placed as shown in fig.8) as required by Safety Standards. The width of the rake must never exceed that of the tractor in front and should therefore always be in its precise transport configuration, as illustrated in fig.5 (step 2). This is essential as the rake can extend up to 8 meters in length when in use. d. Lastly: lock two wings by using the special chain (as shown in fig.7). Note: this chain is an additional precaution to make sure the wings will not be able to leave the frame during transport. shut the hydraulic valves (fig.8a) ; Signaling devices: the tractor must always be fitted with a flashing light and be driven at moderate speed, especially on rough roads, as the heavy weight at the back can make it difficult to drive. Replace or repair lighting and marking that has been damaged or lost. - Rake weight and tractor speed: it is necessary consider the total weight of the machinery (tractor and rake) and its load (rake). The tractor must be heavy and powerful enough with adeguate braking power for the towed load. - Fig.8a 9
Ensure the load does not exceed the recommended weigh ratio. Add ballast to recommended maximum for tractor, lighten the load or get a heavier towing unit. feature, of which there can be up to 13) turn as the rake is trailed to ensure uniform and well aerated forage. Our Carted wheel rake models feature a flexible yet sturdy frame that adapts perfectly to all kinds of terrain, however steep and rugged. Stopping distance increases with speed and weight of towed load and, particularly, on slopes. Towed loads (with or without brakes) can be both heavy for the tractor and towed fast. In both cases they can cause loss of control. The Carted wheel rake must be used only by qualified operators and trained for its use and operation. Safety is of prime importance for the personnel who use the equipment or who perform repairs or maintenance. Given that the provided instructions cannot cover all possible working situations and related dangers, personnel should always use caution and common sense. Fig.9 Dangerous zone Dangerous zone Follow to: if towed equipment does not have brakes, the tractor speed can not exceed more than 32 km/h (20 mph) and the tow-load weight can not exceed more than 1.5 times of tractor s; Dangerous zone Dangerous zone 2,5 m / 8 ft 2,5 m / 8 ft The operator (tractor driver) must always check that no people or animals go in the dangerous zones of the equipment (shown in fig.9), because they are not conscious of possible dangers. if towed equipment has brakes, the tractor speed can not exceed more than 40 km/h (25 mph) and the tow-load weight can not exceed more than 4.5 times of tractor s. Before starting the tractor and begin working, it is important: Use additional caution when towing loads under adverse surface conditions, when turning and on slopes. - perform the daily maintenance tasks (described in the relative paragraph), only if they are foreseen; Laws: you should know and comply with the laws on road circulation in your country. - - verify that the equipment has been correctly installed on the tractor; B.3 Intended use The side-delivery rake is an agricultural equipment for swathing all types of cut forage. For the rake to work, it has to be attached to an agricultural tractor with hitch and auxiliary hydraulic connections at the back. - verify that all locking and safety devices are present and undamaged. During the working process the operator in tractor cabin must observe the following precautions: The two moveable frame and center kicker wheel are hydraulic and the entire rake is trailed by the tractor to which it is attached. The wheels (the main - the tractor must proceed in straight line, avoiding abrupt movements (sudden 10
accelerations and/or changes of direction). The tractor speed must not exceed the limit of 10 - 12 km/h (6.2 - 7.46 MPH); Slope: a high slope can cause the tractor rollover. Do not work on grounds with slope greater than 15 degrees because it is very dangerous. - any maintenance task must be performed with the tractor stopped, with its engine off and with the ignition key removed from the dashboard; adjustment, check, control and Vibrations: it is important to keep the transmission devices and the gears Furthermore, it is opportune to verify often that the bolts are tightened so as to avoid vibrations. always lubricated. Dangerous zone: if, during the transporting process, a people or an animal go in one of the dangerous zone (see previously paragraph), the tractor driver must immediately stop the transporting process and provide to distance the intruder. At the same way, during the adjusting and/or maintenance tasks, the outsiders must not stay or move in the proximity of the equipment. - the operator in the tractor cabin must never abandon the tractor leaving its engine on. Even for short working breaks, they must always stop the tractor, switch off its engine and remove the ignition key from the dashboard; B.5 Responsibility of the operator Each operator becomes liable for the damages caused to themself, others, animals or damages to the things if they proceed with an incorrect use of the equipment and/or not conform to the instructions contained in this manual. Consequently, responsibility of the immediately be void if the operator: - the rake operation does not produce enough noise to allow the use of the acoustic protections (earplugs, earphones, etc.), instead the tractor can produce it. Therefore, consult the use and maintenance manual of the tractor. the Manufacturer would - use the equipment in improper or incorrect way; - has not been property trained or has not read the operator instructions in this manual; B.4 Reasonably foreseeable misuse and limit of employ A different use from that one described in the previously paragraph is considered improper and therefore forbidden. In addition, the technical characteristics of the equipment must not be modified in any way to alter its performance. In this case, both the equipment warranty and the Manufacturer liability become void. - does not respect the current road norms; - not having previously verified the required requirements, the coupling of the equipment to the tractor is not suitable (different power or characteristics to the those ones indicated in the table of the technical data); would immediately - has not performed the foreseen maintenance tasks; Visibility: in conditions of insufficient visibility (fog, dust, smoke or other): it is advisable to stop the tractor and to wait until that fog, dust or other goes away. If this must not occur it is necessary that the working process is interrupted and the tractor goes in a parking place by using its lighting devices. Operate at the same way in case of rain. has modified the equipment; - - has used non original spare parts or not right for the model. - do not wear radio or music headphones while operating machine; Changes of direction: when to the end of the field the machinery must invert the traveling direction, the operator in cabin must stop the tractor and then to provide to the lifting of the same (as in transport configuration) and to carry out the manuever of travel reversal. - wear close fitting clothing and safety equipment appropriate to the job. 11
B.6 Safety labels In addition to the instructions contained in this manual, adhesive labels have been applied on various parts of the equipment to help operators. These labels illustrate the safety rules that should be observed. Fig.10 The shape and color of the labels vary based on the rules. In addition to containing a danger or prohibition sign, other rectangular labels provide additional information about the safety rules that must be observed. The rules illustrated by the labels affixed to the equipment (fig.11) are as follows: DANGER Each operator must know that the direct contact and/or exposure chemical (as lubricants, coolants, paint and adhesive) can cause serious injury. to hazardous 1. Warning of overturn. During the transporting on road, the maximum speed allowed is of 32 km/h (20 mph). A higher speed can cause loss of control during the transport or the braking. (amber/black); A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) provides specific details on chemical products: physical and health hazards, safety procedures and emergency response techniques. Before starting any job using a chemical product of these above mentioned, each operator must consult the MSDS to know exactly the associated risks and how to do the job safely. 2. Warning of serious injuries or death. Rake in transport configuration or however having the wings lifted. A mechanical and/or hydraulic failure may allow wings to fall rapidly. No people stand or move near the wings. (amber/black); 3. Transporting warning sticker. Hydraulic valve in closed or opened position; 6 DANGER CAUTION To avoid injury or death stand clear of machine when wings are being folded or unfolded. Mechanical or hydraulic failure allow wings to fall rapidly. 4 WARNING Before transporting, lock the wings by using the special chain. THROW OBJECTS Do not operate near people. Debris can be throw a long distance. 7 WARNING 3 Avoid serious injury from injection of pressurized hydraulic fluid. - Always relieve pressure before performing service or maintenance on any hydraulic components. Refer to tractor and implement Operator's Manual. - Do not use hand to search for leaks. Use carboard or similar material. 8 2 CAUTION To Avoid Seriuos Injury: Read Operator's Manual before operating, Servicing or repairing equipement. Follow all Safety rules and instructions. (Manuals are available from your selling dealer). Never allow riders. Keep bystanders away from equipment during operation. Operate from tractor seat only. Keep all shields in place and in good condition. Lower equipment to ground, stop engine, remove key and set brake before dismounting tractor. Never allow children or untrained persons to operate equipment. ON HYDRAULIC CYLINDERS WARNING CLOSE HYDRAULIC LOCKING VALVE FOR SERVICE, TRANSPORT, OR WHEN RAKING WITH ONE SIDE. 9 10 CAUTION FAILURE TO HEED THIS WARNING MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH. 1 WARNING Do not exceed this implement's maximum transport speed of 32 km/h (20 mph). Transport only with a properly ballasted tractor and a properly attached safety tow chain. Do not transport with a motor vehicle. Reduce speed and use additional caution when on inclines, towing under adverse surface conditions, and turning. To avoid injury from crushing keep hands and fingers away from this area. Fig.11 Exceeding this speed may result in loss of control during transport or braking and service injury or death. 12

4. Warning of flying objects. Objects in the field of operation may be caught and thrown by the teeth of the rotating star wheels. (amber/ black); 5. Danger of serious injuries or death. Rake in transport configuration or however having the wings lifted. A mechanical and/or hydraulic failure may allow wings to fall rapidly. No people stand or move near the wings. (amber/black); 6. Caution: before transporting, make sure that the safety chain is in place between two wings; 7. Warning of injury or scald due to leaks of pressurized hydraulic fluid. Do not use hand or fingers to search for leaks. Use cardboard or similar material. (amber/black); 8. Obligation to read the use and maintenance manual. (yellow/black); 9. Caution of injury or crushing upper limb. Pay attention to the wing movement. People must keep a safety distance from the rake. (amber/ black); 10. Transporting warning sticker. Release before starting to work. IMPORTANT The safety and instruction labels must be replaced before they become illegible. If this happens, the operator cannot use the carted wheel rake until a new label is applied. Similarly it is utterly forbidden to remove the safety or instruction labels placed on the machine. In any circumstances in which this occurs the Manufacturer disclaims all responsibility because the machine would not meet the safety standards with which it was designed and Manufactured. The labels similar to these present on the equipment are available from the Manufacturer. Call the Customer service of FRONTIER Dealer to ask for replacements. It is advisable, during the equipment delivery verify the presence and the status of the labels. B.7 Noise levels The device produces little noise other than that of its moving mechanical parts and has no motor. Therefore, the operator does not need any acoustic protection (ear plugs, muffs, etc.). As for the noise produced by the tractor, to consult the proper operator s manual. 13
It is possible to create a drawbar shield by using 2 or 4 ply belting. C. INSTALLATION C.1 Rake assembly As already said, the rake is fully dismantled for delivery to the Customer. The rake can be assembled quickly and easily following the relative instructions (at the end of this manual). Assembly must be performed on a flat surface prepared especially for the purpose. The rake, once it has been assembled, can be installed or hitched to a tractor. C.2 Preparing the tractor The rake can be attached to any tractor having a drawbar that conforms to ASAE-SAE standards of 330 to 559 mm (13 to 22 in.) (A) from the ground. Fig.12 C.4 Hitching to the tractor The operator must move the rake slowly to a position where the joints can be easily aligned (1 - fig.15). IMPORTANT The holes in the tractor attachment must be aligned with those on the rake attachment with maximum care and attention. When the tractor is near the rake hitch, turn the lever on the bearing jack (2) to raise or lower the rake hitch and bring it parallel with that on the Adjust the drawbar height to tow-bar of equipment. The coupling of both must result about parallel to ground. 2 The drawbar must be positioned down, as shown in fig.12. Otherwise, turn it. Furthermore, extend drawbar away from tractor as far as possible for better maneuverability when attaching, detaching and operating in the field. 1 C.3 Drawbar shield If a tractor drawbar catches and disturbs the windrow under the tractor, a drawbar shield can be used. 5 3 4 Fig.15 14
