Insights on Understanding God's Will

SOME THOUGHTS ON
GOD’S WILL:

1. God’s will refers to God’s wish,
choice, inclination, desire,
intention and purpose.

2. God’s Word reveals God’s will.
God’s Word declares that God is
good.

Psalm 34:8
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is
good; Blessed is the man who trusts
in Him!

Psalm 100:5
For the Lord is good; His mercy is
everlasting, And His truth endures to
all generations.

3. God’s will for us is always
good.

God’s will does not contradict
His Word, His Nature and
Character.

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the thoughts that I think
toward you, says the Lord, thoughts
of peace and not of evil, to give you a
future and a hope.

Psalm 145:8,9
8 The Lord is gracious and full of
compassion, Slow to anger and great
in mercy.
9 The Lord is good to all, And His
tender mercies are over all His works.

4. God’s will is not something
that’s beyond our understanding.

Romans 11:33
Oh, the depth of the riches both of
the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable are His judgments
and His ways past finding out!

Ephesians 5:17
Therefore do not be unwise, but
understand what the will of the Lord
is.

1 Corinthians 2:9,10
9 But as it is written:
“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor
have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared
for those who love Him.”
10 But God has revealed them to us
through His Spirit. For the Spirit
searches all things, yes, the deep
things of God.

5. G
od’s sovereign will & our
free-will.

SOME OUTCOMES OF SEEKING
AND DOING GOD’S WILL:

1.
 STABILITY
AND
 ENDURANCE

1 John 2:17
And the world is passing away, and
the lust of it; but he who does the
will of God abides forever.

Abide = stay, continue, dwell,
endure, be present, remain and
stand

2. RECEIVING THE PROMISES

Hebrews 10:36
For you have need of endurance, so
that after you have done the will of
God, you may receive the promise:

3. DISCERNMENT

John 7:17
If anyone wills to do His will, he shall
know concerning the doctrine,
whether it is from God or whether I
speak on My own authority.

FOR THIS IS THE WILL OF GOD

1.
To do good

1 Peter 2:15
For this is the will of God, that by
doing good you may put to silence
the ignorance of foolish men

2. To suffer for doing good

1 Peter 3:17
For it is better, if it is the will of God,
to suffer for doing good than for
doing evil.

1 Peter 4:19
Therefore let those who suffer
according to the will of God commit
their souls to Him in doing good, as to
a faithful Creator.

3. Our
s
anctification

1 Thessalonians 4:3,4
3 For this is the will of God, your
sanctification: that you should
abstain from sexual immorality;
4 that each of you should know how
to possess his own vessel in
sanctification and honor,

1 Thessalonians 4:5,6
5 not in passion of lust, like the
Gentiles who do not know God;
6 that no one should take advantage
of and defraud his brother in this
matter, because the Lord is the
avenger of all such, as we also
forewarned you and testified.

4. Our thanksgiving

1 Thessalonians 5:18
in everything give thanks; for this is
the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

PRAYER - GOD'S WILL

Matthew 6:10
Your kingdom come. Your will be
done on earth as it is in heaven.

Psalm 143:10
Teach me to do Your will, For You are
my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me
in the land of uprightness.

Romans 8:26,27
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our
weaknesses. For we do not know
what we should pray for as we ought,
but the Spirit Himself makes
intercession for us with groanings
which cannot be uttered.
27 Now He who searches the hearts
knows what the mind of the Spirit is,
because He makes intercession for
the saints according to the will of
God.

Luke 22:41,42
41 And He was withdrawn from them
about a stone’s throw, and He knelt
down and prayed,
42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will,
take this cup away from Me;
nevertheless not My will, but Yours,
be done.”

Conclusion:

The 'I will' of God

Isaiah 41:10
Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help
you, I will uphold you with My
righteous right hand.

The 'He will' of God

Zephaniah 3:17
The Lord your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save; He will
rejoice over you with gladness, He
will quiet you with His love, He will
rejoice over you with singing.
