Fruit bats, also known as flying foxes, exhibit a wide variation in size, with some as small as two inches and others over 16 inches long. They are equipped with excellent vision and sense of smell, aiding in finding food sources and avoiding danger. Fruit bats have unique feeding habits with sharp teeth and long tongues. Their behaviors include roosting in large colonies for warmth and safety. Mating occurs in segregated groups within colonies. Fruit bats stand out among over 1,200 bat species with their distinctive characteristics.

  1. FRUIT BATS

  2. FRUIT BATS THE FRUIT BATS FALL INTO THE CATEGORY OF THE MEGABATS AND SOMETIMES THEY ARE CALLED THE FLYING FOX IN SOME LOCATIONS . THERE ARE MANY DIFFRENCES IN THERE SIZE FROM ONE LOCATION TO THE NEXT. DUE TO THAT VARTATION THESE BATS ARE OFTEN MISTAKEN FROM MANY DIFFERENT TYPES RATHER THAN BEING IDENTFIED AS THE SAME.

  3. FRUIT BATS GROWTH FOR EXAMPLE SOME FRUIT BATS ARE NO MORE THAN TWO INCHES LONG .OTHERS THOUGH ARE MORE THAN 16 IN LENGTH. SOME OF THEM ONLY WEIGH AN OUNCE OR TWO OTHERS WEIGH IN AT A COUPLE OF POUNDS .THE OVERALL WING LENGTH OF THE FRUIT BATS CAN BE MORE THAN FIVE FEET .THESE BATS HAVE LARGE EYES AND THEY ALSO HAVE EXCELLENT VISION.

  4. FRUIT BATS SENSES THE FRUIT BAT IS SAID TO HAVE THE BEST OVERALL VISION OF ALL THE BAT SPECIES. THEY USE THEIR VISION IN CONJUNCTION WITH THEIR SENSE OF SMELL SO THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO FIND THEIR FOOD SOURCES .THESE SENSES ALSO SERVE TO HELP THEM AVOID DANGEROUS SITUATIONS .THEY ARE A BIG TYPE OF BAT AND THEY ARE SAID TO BE AMONG THE MOST UNIQUE OF MORE THAN 1,200 SPECIES THAT HAVE SO FAR BEEN IDENTIFIED

  5. THE FRUIT BAT HAS SOME SHARP TEETH THAT ALLOW IT TO PENETRATE THE SKIN OF THE FRUITS. THEY ALSO HAVE VERY LONG TONGUES THAT UNROLL WHEN THEY ARE FEEDING . WHEN THEY AREN T EATING THE TONGUE ROLLS BACK UP.IT IS TUCKED AWAY INTERNALLY AROUND THE RIB CAGE RATHER THAN REMAINING IN THE MOUTH.

  6. MATING SINCE FRUIT BATS LIVE IN VERY LARGE COLONIES IT ISN T HARD FOR THEM TO FIND EACH OTHER TO MATE. HOWEVER ,THE MALES AND THE FEMALES TYPIECALLY STAY SEGREGATED UNCLES THEYARE READY TO MATE.ONCE FEMALES ARE PREGNANT,A HUNDRED OR SO OF THEM MAY FORM A PALERNETY COONY THAT IS A SUB AREA OF THE LARGE COLONY.

  7. FRUIT BATS BEHAVIOR THE VERY LONG WINGS OF THE FRUIT BATS DO MUCH MORE THAN JUST ALLOW IT TO FLY. THEY ALSO ALLOW THEM TO STAY WARM DURING ROOSTING . THE WRAP UP IN THOSE WINGS TO CONSERVE THEIR BODY HEAT . THEY LIVE IN COLONIES THAT ARE VERY LARGE IN SIZE BECAUSE THEY FEEL SAFER WITH NUMBERS. INSIDE EACH COLONY OF FRUIT BATS YOU WILL FIND VARIOUS SUB COLONIES . EACH OF THEM HAS ONE MALE AND APPROX. EIGHT FEMALES . THEY FORM VERY CLOSE BONDS WITH THEIR SUB GROUPS .

  8. FRUIT BATS BRAIN WHEN FORAGING FOR INSECTS, A BAT PRODUCES INTENSE FREQUENCY CALLS THAT TRAVEL OVER ABOUT THREE TO FIVE METERS. EACH OF THESE SOUNDS WILL RESULT IN ECHOES BOUNCING BACK FROM NOT JUST THE TASTY INSECTS, BUT EVERYTHING AROUND IT.
