S2S Database - Ocean variables Spent (long) time trying to find encoding in CF/NetCDF to archive in MARS Unable to provide aggregation service as with GRIB Q4 2018 decided to archive Ocean parameters in GRIB Edition 2 Proposals made to WMO GRIB technical committee December 2018, to appear on manual on codes May 2019 Support for 7 (of 9) parameters planned Q2 2019 2 remaining parameters will follow once approved later this year (Q3) by WMO GRIB technical committee Wiki pages are being prepared for providers how to encode the new parameters in WMO compliant GRIB2 format Sample data will be also available S2S steering committee Reading 1.4.2019
S2S Database Future Plans More contributing models: Expected soon GMAO by NASA Interest from IITM (India), no further contact ECMWF fund one position for S2S (and TIGGE) Database activities ECMWF model change to use ERA5 from 46r1: June 2019 Realtime Pilot projects 27 proposals, 18 identified as potentially fulfilling the requirements ECMWF Data Centre move to Bologna (Q1 2020) Importance of data synchronization with CMA S2S steering committee Reading 1.4.2019
Conclusions ECMWF continued commitment to support S2S through Phase II Very popular dataset One extra post funded to strengthen the Products team Ocean variables Q2 2019 ECMWF model use ERA5 Q2 2019 Realtime Pilot Projects S2S steering committee Reading 1.4.2019
