Lowell Goddard Budget of 17.9 million for 2015-2016 Interim report by the end of 2018 and a final report by 2020?

The Public Hearing Project The Public Hearing Project It will resemble a conventional public inquiry Each hearing will last for around 6 weeks Evidence is likely to be taken from both representatives of the institutions under investigation, and from victims and survivors of sexual abuse No power to convict abusers or to award compensation The first Public Hearings in 2016.

The Inquirys first investigations First 12 investigations were announced in November 2015, including Nottinghamshire County and Nottingham City Councils The investigation of Janner was added in January 2016 Other investigations include Lambeth and Rochdale Councils Nottinghamshire County Council s investigation relates to Children in its care since the late 1940 s The County and City Councils received the request for information from the Inquiry on 21 January 2016

  8. Five Workstreams Five Workstreams The Inquiry has divided the institutional sectors under investigation into five broad workstreams. Each workstream will be led by a member of the Inquiry Panel, or the Inquiry Chair. The workstreams are: Allegations of abuse by people of prominence in public life - (Hon. Lowell Goddard DNZM) Education and religion - (Prof. Malcolm Evans OBE) Criminal Justice and law enforcement - (Drusilla Sharpling CBE) Local authorities and voluntary organisations (Prof. Alexis Jay OBE) National and private service organisations (Ivor Frank)

The Nottinghamshire Context (1) The Nottinghamshire Context (1) The County Council welcomes, supports and will fully co-operate with the Inquiry A significant number of allegations of historical abuse in children s homes (both County and City) have been made, dating back to the 1940s The allegations relate to a range of abuse including physical and sexual abuse

The The Nottinghamshire Context (2) Nottinghamshire Context (2) Significant number of actions, both criminal and civil are under way: (1) Operation Daybreak, which was launched by Nottinghamshire Police in 2011 (2) Operation Xeres, investigating similar allegations in north Nottinghamshire, was launched earlier in 2015 (3) Civil Claims against both the County and City Councils In December 2015, Nottinghamshire Police established Operation Equinox bringing together Daybreak & Xeres so resources can be best utilised across both operations.

The Nottinghamshire Context (3) The Nottinghamshire Context (3) The cross authority Strategic Management Group (SMG) has been established to provide cross authority oversight of the criminal and civil proceedings. The County Council will continue to actively support the Police investigations, as well as the civil claim processes. The safety and wellbeing of children and young people in the care of the County Council must be, and is, of the highest priority.
