Slide Note

June 2010

During an animal health emergency, the coordination of tasks, agencies and personnel will be necessary to ensure an effective and efficient response. This is accomplished through the use of the Incident Command System (ICS). This Just-In-Time training will review ICS structure and terminology, with an emphasis on the use of ICS for an animal health emergency.

Incident Command System (ICS) provides a standardized approach to incident management. It offers flexibility, adaptability, and efficient management for incidents of varying sizes and complexities. ICS consists of top-down structure with key functions like logistics, operations, planning, finance/administration, and encompasses roles such as Incident Commander, Command Staff, and General Staff. Operations Section plays a vital role in managing tactical assignments to achieve incident goals.
