CHENNAI FLOOD IMPACT CHENNAI HAS SEEN 17 DAYS STRAIGHT OF RAIN MORE THAN 300 PEOPLE HAVE DIED OVER 1.8 MILLION PEOPLE HAVE BEEN DISPLACED DAMAGES AND LOSSES ESTIMATED TO BE MORE THAN 20000 CRORES SUPPLIES OF BASIC NECESSITIES LIKE MILK, WATER AND VEGETABLES WERE AFFECTED DUE TO LOGISTICAL DIFFICULTIES FUEL SUPPLIES AND TRAVEL WERE GREATLY AFFECTED DURING THE HEAVY RAINS MOSQUITO START BREEDING SOON IN WATERS AND DRAINS CASES OF EPIDEMICS/DISEASES SPREADS AFTER THE FLOODS MANY PEOPLE ARE LEFT HOMELESS LOST THEIR BELONGINGS SAN ANTONIO TAMIL SANGAM

CHENNAI FLOOD IMPACT ECONOMIC IMPACT OF THE HEAVY RAIN IN CHENNAI IS GOING TO BE SIGNIFICANT INDUSTRIES SUCH AS TOURISM WILL FACE ADVERSE OUTCOMES AS CHENNAI IS THE ENTRY POINT FOR MOST TOURISTS RISK OF DROWNING AND ELECTRICAL HAZARDS ARE THE MOST IMMEDIATE DANGERS SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE THE RISK FOR SERIOUS WATERBORNE ILLNESS, LIKE CHILDHOOD DIARRHEA AIRPORT OPERATIONS WAS SHUT DOWN FOR A WEEK, THOUSANDS OF PASSENGERS WERE STRANDED AND EVACUATED IN BATCHES BY BUS FROM THE CHENNAI AIRPORT PEOPLE CONTINUED TO SUFFER FROM LACK OF SUPPLY OF ESSENTIALS INCLUDING WATER, POWER, MILK AND FOOD ITEMS MOBILE PHONE SERVICES, WHICH HAD TAKEN A SEVERE BEATING FOLLOWING THE HEAVY DOWNPOUR POWER REMAINED SUSPENDED IN MANY AREAS AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE SAN ANTONIO TAMIL SANGAM

CHENNAI FLOOD IMPACT MILK SUPPLIES WERE ERRATIC AND MANY CITIZENS COMPLAINED THAT VEGETABLES WERE STILL BEING SOLD AT HIGH RATES MOST OF THE PLACES ACROSS CHENNAI AND ITS SUBURBS HAVE BEEN CUT OFF DUE TO HEAVY RAIN, OIL TANKERS WERE UNABLE TO TRANSPORT FUEL MOTORISTS WERE SEEN STANDING IN LARGE QUEUES FOR SEVERAL HOURS AT SOME FUEL OUTLETS WHERE THERE WAS SUPPLY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IS NOT FUNCTIONING FOR MANY DAYS IN A ROW SUPPLY OF VEGETABLES WAS ALSO HIT WITH LOCAL OUTLETS HAVING LITTLE OR NO STOCK SAN ANTONIO TAMIL SANGAM
