  2. IEEE Central North Carolina Section Greater 2021 Success Invited a Guest speaker to deliver a talk to CNC section Guest speaker: Kathleen Muhonen, Ph.D., Principal Development Engineer, Qorvo TITLE: RF Products That Will Accelerate the Promises of 5G Into Hands of the Consumer Abstract: We are at the start of the 5G rollout to feed consumers desire for more data that is faster, available everywhere, and accessible all the time. The innovation that 5G will bring is already shaping areas in mobile communications, automotive, retail and Internet of Things (IoT). 5G is estimated to add $4.8 trillion to the gross domestic product by 2023. In 2021 it is estimated that mobile phones alone will be in the hands of more than 5.5 billion people. This talk will highlight some of the 5G publications in RF and millimeter application space that are critical for deploying 5G. Advances in surface and bulk acoustic wave (SAW/BAW) filters, RF switches, microelectromechanical (MEMs) switches, low noise amplifiers, efficient plus linear power amplifiers, and beamformers are making use of processes in Gallium Arsenide {GaAs) and Gallium Nitride (GaN) and Silicon on Insulator (SOI). These products combined with technologies such as spectrum sharing, carrier aggregation and massive multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) and antenna array systems will take mobile communications into data speeds of 10Gb/s in the near future. 3. IEEE Central North Carolina Section Greater 2021 Success Involved students to deliver a talk to CNC section Hilina Workneh, MsC Student at NC A&T State University TITLE: Design, Modeling, and Identification of an Experimental Liquid-Level Control System: Enabling Research in Fault Diagnosis Muhammad Islam, PhD Student at NC A&T State University TITLE: Pedestrian Detection and Tracking Using Multimodal Sensor Fusion Biruk E. Tegicho, PhD Student at NC A&T State University TITLE: Effect of Wind on the Connectivity of UAV Swarms SoutheastCon 2022 Mobile, Alabama 3

  4. IEEE Central North Carolina Section Greater 2021 Success Replaced student volunteer for CNC Section Student Chapter president: Troy Blaylock Conducted section meetings to schedule upcoming activities: Student activities and Competitions in Triad area Supported Programming Competition conducted in the Triad region SoutheastCon 2022 Mobile, Alabama 4

  5. IEEE Central North Carolina Section Greatest 2021 challenge Reaching out volunteers to involve in different section activities. Recruiting new IEEE student/members to increase the sections visibility Moving from in person to virtual presentation makes things a bit challenging to smooth the activities. SoutheastCon 2022 Mobile, Alabama 5

  6. IEEE Central North Carolina Section Top 2022 goals Improve member retention and recruitment for each section Improve member engagement within each Section Organize multiple technical meeting (remotely and in person when feasible) Host outreach and poster/presentation/project competition involving college and K12 students To update the CNC website to contain information reflecting current activities Get statistics on the number of IEEE members and see progress quantitatively Workshop (Poster) Presentation and invited speaker (1 per year) SoutheastCon 2022 Mobile, Alabama 6
