The task is worth 4 points and requires students to list prices, make decisions, and provide explanations for their choices. Scoring guides and student examples are included to demonstrate understanding at different score levels. The emphasis is on critical thinking and mathematical reasoning skills in solving real-world problems.

  1. RELEASED SAMPLE ITEMS GRADE 6 Released Performance Event Item with Student work

  2. Information about this PowerPoint Performance Events in Mathematics will be either 3- or 4-point items. A student s score for an item indicates the level of understanding they are demonstrating for the particular question. Each score point provides a range of possible papers, meaning there will be stronger or weaker papers within each point value.

  3. Information about this PowerPoint The sample in this presentation is a 6thGrade item that is worth 4-points. Students must determine which store has the best deal for buying 2 shirts and support their findings with work or explanation. For each sample of student work there is an annotation indicating both the score as well as the scoring rationale.

  4. 6thGrade Item

  5. Scoring Guide 2 points: The student lists the prices of the shirts at store A ($15.92, or unit price of $7.96) and store B ($15.75, or unit price of $7.875) and includes a decision based on the prices. (Note: to earn 2 points in this portion of scoring students would need to determine prices for both stores as well as indicating which is best) 2 points: The student shows or explains his/her work in determining the prices at store A and store B. (Note: to earn 2 points in this portion, students would need to show work or explain for both stores; 1 point for only showing for one store)

  6. Score Score 4 Points 4 Points Student correctly determined the price at each Store and selected correct best buy. In addition, student showed complete work or explanation for both stores to support answers.

  7. Score Score 4 Points 4 Points Student correctly determined the price at each Store and selected correct best buy. In addition, student showed complete work or explanation for both stores to support answers.

  8. Score Score 4 Points 4 Points Student correctly determined the price at each Store and selected correct best buy. In addition, student showed sufficient work or explanation for both stores to support answers, minor error didn t impact solution. Typos and grammar errors do not impact the score.

  9. Score Score 3 Points 3 Points Student correctly determined the price at each Store and selected correct best buy. In addition, student minimally showed work or explanation for one store to support answers. So one additional point was awarded

  10. Score Score 2 Points 2 Points Student correctly determined the price at each Store and selected correct best buy. Note, student answers in different format did not impact this part of score. Student did not showed work or explanation for both stores to support answers, so no additional points were awarded.

  11. Score Score 1 Point 1 Point Student correctly determined the price for only one Store so was awarded 1 point for this section. Student did not showed work or explanation for both stores to support answers, so no additional points were awarded.

  12. Score Score 0 Points 0 Points Student incorrectly determined the price for each Store so no points were awarded for this section. Student did not showed work or explanation that could lead to correct solutions, so no additional points were awarded.
