Diplomatic Passport in Year 1 with first years Whole School Approach Embedded across all subjects - included in subject dept plans Opened application form to all teachers to add to as sometimes not aware of what everyone is doing GCE Noticeboard - articles, calendar for year Student led weekly assemblies - plastics, German culture, recycling, world mental health, digital footprint Teachers attended CPD on teaching GCE and Global Action Plan Day
Highlights First Year classes - named Malala and Thunberg, whole school read I am Malala Green Committee - recycling bins and aiming for plastic free schools Students attended Climate Action Plan Wellbeing Committee - raise awareness of mental health issues Students attended Inspiring Active Citizens Workshop Students helped organise Trip To Spain To improve Spanish (spoken by over 483 million in the world) To experience another culture Student associate members on BOM Students created an anti bullying App called Cara Whole School Scifest - theme of recycling and healthy living Students attended Model UN in Wesley College and Wicklow ETSS UN committees formed in Ethical Education class
Highlights Science - product life cycle and how best to dispose of waste, reduce our carbon footprint STEAM class - focus on climate change to develop a project using MicroBits to prepare Ireland for 2050 e.g. flooding, waste management, website - local beach clean-ups, palm oil Home Ec - focus on sustainability, packaging History - poverty in different civilisations CSPE - Human Rights, challenging stereotypes, encouraging empathy First Lego League - shaping cities for the future - retractable cycle path Official student GCE committee in 2020 Organised student exchange for 2nd year with school in Spain Working with another school on a homelessness and food inequality project English - research an environmental issue and write a speech Sustainable Winter Fair - students sold handmade crafts Reusable Christmas Card Trip to Howth - plastic collector in the sea
