Gates and Doors 9.15.24 LIFEGATE
John 17 (NIV)Jesus Prays for his disciples and for future believers 6 I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. 7 Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. 8 For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. 9 I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.
John 17:10-12 10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. 11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one. 12 While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.
John 17:13-19 13 I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. 14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. 15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
John 17:20-23 Jesus Prays for All Believers 20 My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one 23 I in them and you in me so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
John 17:24-26 24 Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. 25 Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.
Jesus talks about the doorway to Heaven John 14 [NIV] 5 Thomas said to him, Lord, we don t know where you are going, so how can we know the way? 6 Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him. 9 Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.
Jesus talks about Gates and Doors John 10:1-3 LSB I Am the Good Shepherd Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
Open the Door to Him only! Thieves and robbers sneak in. Those who enter through trickery, deception or force are thieves. The for Good Shepherd, the gatekeeper recognizes and opens the gate. (See his character in this) The Lord enters through the gate He is a proper gentleman. He waits to be recognized and opened for.
Doorway to what? Who is coming in and who is to be kept out? Rev 3:20 [ESV] 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. 2 Chron 23:19 [ESV] 19 He stationed the gatekeepers at the gates of the house of the Lord so that no one should enter who was in any way unclean.
Warning: Don t Leave the Gate Door Open! Luke 11:24-26 [NLT] 24 When an evil spirit leaves a person, it goes into the desert, searching for rest. But when it finds none, it says, I will return to the person I came from. 25 So it returns and finds that its former home is all swept and in order. 26 Then the spirit finds seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they all enter the person and live there. And so that person is worse off than before. Luke 11:24 [LSB] When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person NOTICE: it does not say sent or cast out
What are open doors that a person might have? -Any form of sin that has not been put under the Blood of Jesus -unrepented/unresolved sin (any) -unforgiveness, resentment, hate -rebellion, witchcraft, occult, new age practices -generational sin -soul-ties Something that happened in the past tying you to a person -trauma/abuse/hurt/fear sometimes the impact of what happened to you -all works of the flesh Not sure if any of this applies to you? Do you have any reoccurring struggle in a specific area of your life/ any specific stronghold? That could be an open door for the enemy to influence.
The 4 Rs of Freedom The 4 R s of Freedom Closing Doors to Keep The Enemy Out Closing Doors to Keep The Enemy Out (Update: I added an R to the 3 R s ) Repent Confess your sins to the Lord, and receive forgiveness (1 John 1:9) Renounce Denounce all sin/lies, break agreement, cancel permission of the enemy to use it (James 4:7) Resist Command in Jesus name, that any attack of the enemy/any unclean spirit associated with what is now under the blood of Jesus leave you now (Luke 10:19) Replace Ask the Holy Spirit to come and fill you and help uproot the lies and replace them with His truth (Luke 11:13)
ASK, SEEK, KNOCK When you are asking for more of Jesus in your life Matthew 7:7-8 7 Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
John 20:21-22 [Jesus appears to his disciples after His resurrection] 21Again Jesus said, Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you. 22And with that he breathed on them and said, Receive the Holy Spirit.
The Great Commission The Great Commission Mark 16:14-18 [ESV] 14 Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at table, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. 15 And he said to them, Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.
Acts 8:6-8, 14-17 [NIV] After Stephen was martyred, Philip went down to Samaria and started preaching Jesus to the crowds of people... 6 When the crowds heard Philip and saw the signs he performed, they all paid close attention to what he said. 7 For with shrieks, impure spirits came out of many, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed. 8 So there was great joy in that city.
Acts 8:6-8, 14-17 [NIV] The people received the Gospel, were delivered of demons, then baptized with water, but that had not been baptized with the Holy Spirit. So they sought that intentionally 14 When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to Samaria. 15 When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers there that they might receive the Holy Spirit, 16 because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
3 Final Questions: PAUSE AND ASK THE LORD Do I need to make Jesus Lord of your life? Do I need Jesus to deliver me from any hold that the enemy has on you? Do I desire or need to be filled with the Holy Spirit?
