  2. Research Essay: Who we are.. Placement - Foundation, EAP Level 1 or EAP Level 2 for12 weeks each Classroom strength 12-15 students Classroom teaching duration 8:30 am-3:30 pm. Team teaching Language Skills/Instructors TESL 2012: Shazia Nawaz Awan October 7, 2024

  3. Research Essay: What we do.. EAP 1 & 2 students are supposed to write a research essay - every 6 weeks Topics are usually given Word limit is usually shorter in the first half of the course than in the later half TESL 2012: Shazia Nawaz Awan October 7, 2024

  4. Research Essay: How I do it.. Formative Vs. Summative The whole process is usually divided into steps Students get marks for the product; however, they are also marked for process. TESL 2012: Shazia Nawaz Awan October 7, 2024

  5. Research Essay: What they already know.. At this point, students have already gone through basic grammar such as tenses, conditionals, transitions, and sentence types. They have already done basic work on paragraph structure, topic sentence, supporting details, examples, and concluding sentences, etc. Before they start writing their thesis statement, they have worked on what thesis statement is, etc. They also work on hooks .   6. Step 1: Get to know what you will write on! Get to know proposed topics Work in class with all the topics Choose your topic Analyze/ Interpret the topic TESL 2012: Shazia Nawaz Awan October 7, 2024

  7. Step 2: Lets research what others say about your topic . Students work on researching their topic We use lab/lap tops Students work independently The research is supposed to be very basic (maybe 2/3 articles) TESL 2012: Shazia Nawaz Awan October 7, 2024

  8. Step 3: Start planning.. Hook Thesis statement Topic sentence for each paragraph Supporting details ( ideas) TESL 2012: Shazia Nawaz Awan October 7, 2024

Step 4: Lets start writing Students start working on their first draft They have almost a week and a half to work on their first draft They are made familiar with the requirements beforehand First draft is submitted, marked and reviewed for the final draft TESL 2012: Shazia Nawaz Awan October 7, 2024
