  2. We need to establish the character of Duncan Speaking aloud and in full sentences, answer the following questions using PEARL as much as possible. What do we learn about Duncan s character in the quotations below from 1.4? There's no art To find the mind's construction in the face: He was a gentleman on whom I built An absolute trust. (as an extension here, who is he talking about and why is this comment ironic?) My plenteous joys, Wanton in fulness, seek to hide themselves In drops of sorrow.

  3. IRONY In 1.6 we see Dramatic Irony a situation when the audience knows more than the characters on stage. How do the following quotations show this and how does it affect our perception of Duncan and of Lady Macbeth? DUNCAN: This castle hath a pleasant seat; the air Nimbly and sweetly recommends itself Unto our gentle senses. See, see, our honour'd hostess! The love that follows us sometime is our trouble, Which still we thank as love.
