Warm up Activity Draw a person doing the job assigned to you: Firefighter Florist Make up Artist Engineer Designer Soldier
Find someone who drew the same occupation. Compare your drawings and be ready to share: How are your drawings the same? How are they different? Discuss why you drew that occupation a certain way.
Do your drawings look like the ones in this artwork? How are they similar? How are they different? What does your drawing reflect about your ideas of that occupation?
Lets read what the artist said about the painting. In this artwork, I created stereotypes. One of the people I drew is a female firefighter. Some people might say that this job is not feminine. Another person is a male makeup artist. People will say that it is not a common job for a male. Look at the next work for a few moments, and then take turns sharing with your shoulder partner: What do you notice about the people in this painting? Be prepared to share out with the class.
Lets read what the artist said about the painting. Women and girls as actors and builders of an equal world over which they watch and deploy their full potential. This work reminds us of the important value of the contribution of women and girls to society when their rights are respected. It symbolizes a fair and shared world where everyone contributes to equality; it also represents the possibility for everyone to participate in the different spheres of society without discriminatory barriers. It means equal opportunities, an end to violence, harassment, and prejudice against women.
