Two Outcomes: Understand coaching and the value of a coach to excellence through on-going formation for spiritual leadership. Identify and address God s solution to a stumbling block to excellence of spiritual leadership.

What is a Coach? An Athletic Coach? Where You ARE Where You Want to BE Like a Barnabas, a coach is one called alongside to help and encourage (Acts 4:36)

Coaches dont determine which way the wind is blowing, or even if it is blowing Consultant Mentor Counselor

Goals of Coaching A coach focuses on the coachee and focuses the choachee on themselves. Focus the coachee on God and God s purpose for some part of their life, ministry or business but now even more while I (Paul) am away, carry out your own salvation with fear and trembling. God is the one who enables you both to want and to actually live out his good purposes. (Philippians 2: 12b-13, (CEB)

A Christian Coach: Encourages by having hope & faith for the coachee when he or she lacks hope & faith Extends love including tough love when appropriate by Asking powerful questions & holding coachee accountable Confronting the false assertions the coachee believe

Goals of Coaching Create a safe space for the coachee that is non- judgmental where he or she can be vulnerable All in cooperation with the Holy Spirit in the fulfillment of God s agenda.

Every Christian has spiritual gifts and abilities that God has given them that can be developed. (Psalms 139:13; I Cor. 12) Everyone has values regardless if they can articulate them Everyone has passions Everyone has access to Scripture, tradition experience and reason.

Asking Powerful Pointed Questions People might be upset with me if I don t sit with their family while they are in surgery. - Who told you that? Explaining a problem that needs to be addressed. What do you intend to do? Sharing a goal - Who will you talk to? What strategy will you use as you roll it out? Sharing a struggle In the Bible, who do you know struggled? How might that apply to you?
