The European Fellowship Programmes in ORL-HNS aim to enhance clinical evaluation, diagnosis, and surgical skills in specialized areas such as Rhinology, Head & Neck Surgery, and Otology-Neurotology. Supported by European academies and societies, the program offers fellows exposure to a wide range of ORL-HNS surgeries and the opportunity to work in outpatient surgery units. Objectives (1) Expose the fellow to the clinical evaluation and diagnosis in patients with ORL-HNS disorders at a training centre officially approved by the related subspeciality. To learn and gain experience in practice in any of the subspecialties of ORL-HNS. To develop advanced skills in clinical assessment and evaluation of patients for ambulatory surgery. To attend a reasonable spectrum in ORL-HNS surgeries as first assistant or as executing surgeon under supervision of an experienced surgeon.
Objectives (2) To develop experience, if indicated, in managing an outpatient surgery unit under the supervision of the training centre. To be exposed to multidisciplinary dialogueswith related medical specialties (such as radiology, medical oncology, radiotherapy, neurology, rehabilitation, and pain doctors etc.) to better serve the patients. Plan and carry out clinical or basic research projects relevant to ORL-HNS Participate in teachingand clinical instruction.
Eligibility criteria for applicants The CEORL-HNS Fellowship is awarded to a specialist from one of the CEORL-HNS member countries currently employed in Europe intends to work later in a European Academic department. He/She needs to be proposed by his/her country s national ENT society
Requirements for fellows (1) The candidate should be in the early years of his/her academic career, and should be linked to a tertiary Academic institution (or a reputed center) Letter of recommendation by applicant s country s national ENT society Letter of recommendation by applicant s Head of Institution National board certification in ENT Letter of motivation describing intended purpose of the visit and applicant s professional focus and interests
Requirements for fellows (2) List of previous presentations/publications Logbook of what has been accomplished during the residency Fellowship candidates need to have passed both parts of the EBEORL exam in order to be eligible. In addition, the recipient is required - to comply with the national/local rules of the Head of the training centre. - to attend the biennial Congress of European ORL-HNS (odd years) or the biennial congress of the respective Subspecialty Society (even years), presenting an oral communication. - to write a report for the CEORL-HNS website.
Assesment (1) Monitoring whether the goals of subspecialty training are being achieved by the representatives of the CEORL-HNS Presidential Council. The fellow is required to fill in a logbook provided by the subspecialty society about the activities executed during the fellowship. This logbook must be presented to the CEORL- HNS once the term has been finalised. Diploma by the training centre (certificate of the period)
Assesment (2) Requirements for receiving a Fellowship Diploma by the CEORL-HNS and the respective Subspecialty Society are as follows: - To present a certificate of the training centre about the fellowship - To present the logbook signed by the training centre - Publication of at least one article in one of the official organs of the CEORL-HNS (as of now: Acta Oto- Laryngologica (Scand); European Archives of ORL- HNS, and Rhinology), either as first or as co-author. The manuscript should at least have been accepted for publication. She/he should provide a structured assessment of the fellowship by reporting to the CEORL- HNS General Assembly during that congress.
Requirements for training centers for host clinic status (1) Host Clinics shall be accepted as subspecialty training centres provided they have any official recognition (extended by a national society, governmental body, or general medical council etc.). Additionally, they need to provide proof of their: Main activities surgical procedures, -experience with clinical, and basic research
Requirements for training centers for host clinic status (2) List of publications, theses and grants of the past five years Description of existing programmes intended for foreign visitors, e.g. international mentoring programme or similar A template for application as a host clinic is made available on the CEORL-HNS website
