Exam Style Exam set and run by CEM - www.cem.org Centre for Evaluation & Monitoring - managed by the University of Durham Pupils take two written papers, each of 45 minutes which consist of:- Paper 1 Paper 2 Comprehension Verbal Reasoning Non-Verbal Reasoning Each paper is of equal importance Questions are grouped into topics with an introductory example
School Preparation Existing lessons already include preparation of exam topics, (mainly current Year 5) Year 5 pupils have already sat some test papers Current lessons include the school s standard curriculum - however, there is an increasing emphasis on test style questions at the present time The school does not provide individual coaching The school does not provide coaching clubs for these tests.
Role of Tutoring CEM do not advocate pupil coaching Many pupils do receive individual coaching The school does not approve individual coaches However, the school does provide the maximum help to all students to maximise their ability and achievement
Test Material CEM do not publish or approve any specific test material A number of independent providers offer their own test material A complete set from CGP costs appx 45 The test material available includes:- Comprehension Verbal Reasoning Non-Verbal Reasoning (including Mathematics) Practice exam papers The school is currently using this resource in its teaching
Comments The test can be taken at any of the Gloucestershire Grammar Schools ( see Gloucestershire County Council web site) There is no advantage in sitting the exam at your preferred school You should allow your child s result to be shared Consider appeals Some Gloucestershire Grammar schools have been expanding the number of pupils in Year 7 from September 2018 onwards A minority of children obtain entrance to the Grammar schools Remember the pressure on the children of taking these exams
