The Promise The (learning analytics) project will underpin the ambitions of Learning Enhancement (us), to enable Derby to become a sector lead in understanding student learning activities to inform appropriate academic advice and guidance, such that students are enabled to reach their goals and maximise their academic potential . Pilot Group A group of 30-40 academic staff expressed interest across all Colleges Workshop to identify questions staff wanted answers to, most (if not all) included: How do I know if what I m doing on Blackboard works ? How is a student doing in comparison to the course average? Is there a correlation between achievement/retention and student access? (fingers crossed!) Early warning notification of a problem (wobble weeks?), intervention before it s too late Requirement for a 360 view of student activity across a programme area, a dashboard . Stage Two: Next Steps/Considerations Ongoing work with IT Governance, BI Project Board and Student Union on ethical considerations and data protection Further integration with other BI data sources to better aid predictive intelligence Student-facing dashboard, so students can take ownership of their data Dashboard consolidation, so linking in with PeopleSoft and other sources (HR/Enrolment/Finance/Personal Tutoring) Impact on our (Learning Technology Team) relationship with the academic community at Derby.
