  2. Introduction Introduction Communication Communication The field umpire is required to be able to communicate clearly, utilising voice, whistle and signals during general play. They must also use observation to maintain effective control and presence when required.

Non controlling umpires should maintain a presence and be aware of the remainder of the ground including behind them and off the ball.

Umpires need to work as a team in managing players and officials to effectively control a match.
