  1. Parental Tips for ADHD Delivered by Louise King Pupil Support Services

  2. Routine Routine needs to be structured, predictable. This will help with getting them ready for school/activities/clubs/visits etc. Visual examples can be as simple as it needs to be. Can tie it in with rewards etc. Can be visual or words dependant on the age of the child. Morning Routine Evening Routine Get up when mum/dad ask me too. Have a shower. Get dressed. Eat breakfast. Clean teeth. Get changed from my school uniform. Do my homework. Eat Tea. Complete any jobs. Watch TV Ipad Time

  5. Specific Language Be very clear on what you want from the child I am looking for , we are looking for . Avoid using no or don t as these can often act as triggers instead of Don t throw the cars in the box try Let s see you put the cars in the box Don t bang your spoon on the table try Let s see how quietly you can put your spoon down Don t throw balls in the house try Balls are for outside because there are lots of things that can get broken inside .

  6. Offering Choices Children like to feel that they are either in control or have some control You can have toast or Weetabix for breakfast You can watch 15 minutes of TV or 15 minutes iPad time . Make it clear that if they don t choose within a certain time you will then choose for them. Give them take up time to think. If the adult has to make the choice try saying You had enough time to choose and you didn t. You gave me the choice so I have chosen this .

  9. Timers Timers can be used for a variety of things . Help with homework/jobs make it fun Let s see if you can tidy your toys away in 2 minutes You have 5 minutes of homework then a 2 minute break .   12. Bedtime Routine Sleep is so important for everyone, if you don t have adequate sleep this will affect attention/learning/behaviour. Bedtime should be consistent even on weekends and school holidays Have a wind down hour as part of your routine. During this time try dimmed lights and no electric devises.
