We need to learn, teach, and transmit a way of
life of sharing
,
generosity
 and
bountiful cheerful giving
within GCI, that will
continue from generation to generation
Our members must be known to be
generous, kind, hospitable and
cheerful givers
It is Christ-given mandate for members to support the church financially for:
Local ministry activities
local congregation
national church, and
the GCI denomination

VISION, MISSION AND MINISTRY

People give for a
mission/ purpose / programme
driven
by a
clear compelling vision
The mission and vision must be in alignment with the
reason
why we exist as a Christian church
Some of these could be
short, medium or long-term vision
and mission
Whatever it is, it should be so clearly spelt out that
members will know and will be persuaded to give – once,
or regularly according to the needs

The Culture GCI wants to create – High Support & High Challenge

Healthy Christians give – Offerings are a measure of our spiritua
l health
“I am not commanding you, but I want to
test the sincerity of your love
by comparing it with
the earnestness of others.”

(2 Cor. 8:8)
“For where your treasure is,
there your heart will be
also.” (Matt. 6:21)
“ … You
excel
 in so many ways—in your
faith, your gifted speakers, your knowledge, your
enthusiasm, and your love
from us—I want you to excel also in this gracious
act of giving
.” (2
Cor. 8:7)
If we don’t create a culture of giving, we will not grow into a healthy church – “remember the words
of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is
more blessed to give than to receive
.’” (Acts 20:36)

Poverty Alleviation
-
2 Corinthians 8:1 – 4
Ministry Worker Salaries
– “
If we have sown spiritual seed among you, is it too much if we reap
a material harvest from you?… Don’t you know that
those who serve in the temple get their
food from the temple
, and that those who serve at the altar share in what is offered on the
altar?
IN THE SAME WAY
, the
Lord has commanded
that those who preach the gospel
should receive their living from the gospel
.” (1 Corinthians. 9:11, 13-14 NIV
Ministry Programs
– Catering, Transport, Youth Camps, Outreach, Retreats

Exodus 23:14; 34:20 –
“Don’t come before the Lord “empty-handed
”!
Offerings – freewill and thanksgiving
“Offering time is blessing time”;
“Givers never lack” – biblical language
“God is good, all the time!” – what does it mean?
This is our Father’s Work – we are co-workers with God
You cannot ‘out-give’ God – All belong to him

Create Occasions for Giving as Part of
Annual Worship Calendar

Thanksgiving Day
– Special day set aside by Nation or church
to say ‘thank you, Lord’
Special Days
in the Church Calendar – Annual Lord’s Supper,
Resurrection Sunday, Pentecost, Ascension Day, Christmas,
New Year’s Day Offerings
Special events in our lives
– birthdays, wedding
anniversaries, exam success, employment, retirement, birth of
new babies, acquisition of car or house, marriage, death of a
loved one etc.

Develop the Infrastructure for Giving

Offering envelopes
 - Everybody gives equal – an envelope
Encourage direct deposit for official receipts to be issued
Offering bowls, baskets – not shopping plastic bags and plates
Accessibility for givers – how the collections happen, when
Information about the types and periods for each offering
Accountability and reporting of use of offerings – share financial
statements
Various offering methods: EFT, Mobile banking, Cash deposits, etc

Preach on Giving – RCL provides
many opportunities

The Bible speaks about money and possessions as much as it does other
spiritual subjects– if you spend six months without preaching about giving,
your preaching is not balanced
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the
door will be opened to you.”
(Matt. 7:7)
Jesus spoke about money and possessions all the time
