Timeline of Events: Mex-Amer War (1846- 1848) and Mex. Civil War (1858) ruin economy Owe France and others heavy debt France names Napoleon III s relative, Archduke Maximilian, as ruler of Mexico September 16, 1821- Mexican Independence From Spain Mexican-American War: Troops at the Siege of Veracruz
Timeline of Events: Benito Juarez fue el president durante la batalla France invades Mexico from Gulf Coast by Veracruz and began toward Mexico City May 5, 1862- Defeat of the French allowed for nationalism to rise and unity of Mexico to follow French Army encounters resistance near Puebla, Mexico Mexico: 4,500 poorly armed men VS. France: 6,500 well- outfitted army
Timeline of Events: Napoleon III sends 30,000 troops the following year to squash the Mexican Resistance, which it does easily 1867- US Civil War is now over and US can help Mexico to expel the French Maximilian is reinstated at the ruler of Mexico from 1864
