Challenges faced by
Company Secretaries
during Covid-19 and
Lockdown period
An analysis by Akshaya Rengan

Loss of Office Culture
T
he Lockdown
kept professionals centered far from office cubicles, in
space of their own. These spaces remind us of dissimilarities across
the spectrum and a loss of equal pedestal that office culture offers.
Digital Divide
Professionals had to make sure that all their staff are well equipped
with
High Speed .Internet Connectivity
 along with
essential gadgets.
Office rent and expenses
While location of work changed, fixed costs such as office rent
remained same which acted like an unnecessary cash outflow when
the resources were already meagre.
Stationary, Printouts, Stamps, Digital Signatures
Minor issues like availability of stamps and stationary occupied center
stage since they weren’t easily procurable during lockdown. Ensuring
centralised control of digital signatures was a primary concern as well.
Change in Payment
Cycles and a halt on
Hiring
Scanty resources at one’s disposal
meant that there was a drastic
change in payment cycle with
mutual understanding amongst
vendor and buyers.
Lockdown also meant a decrease
in traineeship and an absence of
learning and interactive sessions
Work - Life Imbalance
One had to incorporate
roles of a professional,
a teacher, a cook, a
househelp, a parent, all
at once in real time!
The usual 9 to 5 hustle
was replaced by
inappropriate sleep
patterns, a decrease in
outside leisure activities
that earlier acted as
stress busters and a
creation of work space
within the home
environment
 .
Pandemic hit the livelihood
of various working woman
who crossed societal
barriers to finally occupy
the positions they did, only
to be sacrificed at the altar
of lockdown hit family life….
Balance became a myth
