THEY ARE CHOSEN BY THE ENTREPRENEUR TO MANAGE AND CONTROL THE BUSINESS. ENTREPRENEUR: A PERSON WHO STARTS HIS/HER OWN BUSINESS, TAKES RISKS, GATHERS THE RESOURCES AND COMBINES ALL OF THIS IN TO A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS. IF YOU START YOUR OWN BUSINESS, YOU ARE REFERRED TO AS AN ENTREPRENEUR. THIS MEANS THAT YOU RUN THE BUSINESS, TAKE ALL OF THE BUSINESS RISKS AND MAKE THE BUSINESS DECISIONS. WHEN THE APPLICATION FORM AND ALL RELEVANT DOCUMENTS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED, THE SOCIAL WORKER WILL DO THE FOLLOWING: * DRAW UP AND COMPLETE CHECKLIST * VISIT PREMISES * COMPLETE THE NEEDS ASSESSMENT FORM TO DETERMINE IF THERE IS A NEED FOR AND ECD SITE IN THAT PARTICULAR COMMUNITY * INFORM THE ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICER OF THE APPLICATION * INFORM OTHER STAKEHOLDERS (E.G. FIRE CHIEF) 4. WHEN THE HEALTH CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE AND OTHER REPORTS ARE RECEIVED, THE SOCIAL WORKER WILL COMPLETE THE CHECKLIST. IF ALL THE REQUIREMENTS ARE MET, A PROVISIONAL WORKER WILL COMPLETE THE CHECKLIST. IF PROVISIONAL REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE IS VALID FOR 3 MONTHS. IF ALL THE REQUIREMENTS HAVE NOT YET BEEN MET, THE SOCIAL WORKER WILL CONSULT WITH AND ADVISE THE APPLICANT TO ASSIST IN REACHING THE POINT OF PROVISIONAL REGISTRATION.

THE SOCIAL WORKER WILL MONITOR THE PROVISIONALLY REGISTERED CENTRE FOR THREE MONTHS AND DO AN ASSESSMENT ON THE GENERAL CARE OF THE CHILDREN, AND THE ADMINISTRATIVE AND FINANCIAL SYSTEMS IN PLACE. IF ALL THIS IS SATISFACTORY, A FULL REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE IS ISSUED. THE CERTIFICATE IS VALID FOR 2 YEARS. THE SOCIAL WORKER WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE CENTRE FOR THE NEXT 2 YEARS. A CENTRE HAS TO RE-REGISTER WHEN THE CENTRE MOVES TO ANOTHER BUILDING, CHANGES THE SIZE OF THE BUILDING (EXTEND OR DECREASE), INCREASES THE MAXIMUM=M NUMBER OF CHILDREN ENROLLED OR SELLS THE BUSINESS. THE PROCEDURE FOR RE-REGISTRATION IS THE SAME AS FOR REGISTRATION.
Career opportunities in early childhood MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE BUILDING TO COMPLY WITH THE REGULATIONS FOR AN ECD CENTRE: BUILDING MUST BE SAFE, WEATHERPROOF AND WELL VENTILATED. THE FLOORS AND WALLS SHOULD BE COVERED IN A MATERIAL THAT IS SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN, WITH A SURFACE THAT IS EASY TO CLEAN AND MAINTAIN IN A HYGIENIC MANNER. THERE SHOULD BE AN OFFICE THAT CAN ALSO BE USED A SICK BAY. WHERE 50 OR MORE CHILDREN ARE CARED FOR AT A CENTRE, THE SICK BAY SHOULD BE ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE AT LEAST 2 CHILDREN AT A TIME. PROVISION FOR STAFF PRIVACY AND LOCK UP FACILITIES FOR THEIR PERSONAL BELONGINGS. KITCHEN AREA MUST HAVE SEPARATE AREAS FOR FOOD PREPARATION, COOKING AND WASHING UP. THERE MUST BE ADEQUATE AND SAFE STORAGE AND ACCESS TO CLEAN DRINKING WATER. THERE NEEDS TO BE ADEQUATE LIGHTING AND VENTILATION AND ALL SURFACES MUST BE WASHABLE. COOLING FACILITIES MUST BE PROVIDED FOR THE STORAGE OF PERISHABLE FOODS. THERE MUST BE AN ADEQUATE NUMBER OF BINS WITH TIGHTLY FITTING LIDS FOR WASTE.
