Our challenge: How to attract staff to work at the East Gippsland Shire.
Our solutions Our solutions to this issue are, making shire employees feel valued, having a healthy working environment, employee benefits and job security.
Solution one making employees feel valued In a work environment it is key for your employees to feel valued and motivated in order for them to keep coming to work and staying happy. At the shire building in Bairnsdale the goal would be to make sure all your employes feel safe, valued and respected. This could be done by putting offices closers to each other, complimenting and giving every employee constructive feedback and going the extra step by awarding and recognising people for their hard work. Some other local businesses have scheduled weeks once a year when every employee attends a camp to bond and create friendships and memories. That may be something the shire could introduce.
Solution 2- job security Another solution is job security. As a group we have personally asked some of our elders what would make them want to come to work. The first response was job security. Job security allows all employees to work and do their job well, whilst also being able to relax and not stress over the fact that their jobs could be lost at any moment. To help people looking for new jobs realise that things like job security exist, is advertising.
How to get our solutions in action You're probably thinking well they re great ideas but there just ideas, ideas can t do anything if there not put into action. How can we show people what the available job has to offer? We believe the answer is social media. Social media is one of our most effective and easy tools which lots of businesses underrate. Social media reaches not only the more experienced adults in the job industry, but more the younger generation that might be fresh out of uni or just looking for a change. These younger communities are usually more likely to stay in Melbourne but reaching them through social media posts could be the way to attract them to come back and work in our community
What we have learnt from this experience. From this experience we have learnt new thinking strategies, and how to work better as a team to solve real life problems in our community.
