The Annual Review Process Annual Review is undertaken by academic staff with responsibility for design, delivery & enhancement of courses Review, evaluation & continuous enhancement of all SHU's award-bearing provision is essential activity to assure quality of student experience & to maintain academic standards. Annual Review allows CLs to review performance of their course against KPIs enables HoDs to compare the effectiveness of courses within their subject/department and share practice contributes evidence to demonstrate that standards are being maintained & quality is being enhanced. The Annual Review Cycle Annual Quality Review Cycle The diagram below describes that annual quality assurance cycle that culminates in the University Annual Review Report that goes to Board of Governors for discussion in November Academic Assurance Committee June July August September October November Board of Governors and Annual Quality Review and Action Plan, Student Voice Report Academic Assurance Cttee Board of Governors Meeting Annual Quality Review Report and action plan finalised Teaching & Quality Committee Shaping Futures Board Shaping Futures Board and Student Voice Report from Students Union Teaching and Quality Cttee - Annual Review Meeting Directorates and Research Degrees Committee Annual Reports Faculty and Directorate Annual Reports Student Voice Report from Students Union Student Voice Committee Departmental Review and Action Plan Department Boards and Student NSS, PTES, DLHE and internal KPI data Module Reviews Head of Department /Departmental Boards Monitor and Review CIPs Voice Departmental Board hold Review Meeting Course External Examiner Reports Improvement Plans (CIPs) produced It is expected that the review process is iterative and that module/course/department and faculty teams should update their documentation as and when they feel appropriate throughout the course of an academic year. Student feedback (Staff-Student Cttees etc.) Assessment Board Outcomes Departmental Boards Principles: Course teams are expected to reflect on the performance of their course through their ongoing Course Improvement Plans. These Plans are reviewed, monitored and managed via the Departmental Board, which is chaired by the Head of Department. The plans incorporate analysis of a range of data sources, which are also looked at from a portfolio perspective by the Head of Department and the Departmental Board. The Shaping Futures Board and its sub-committee, the University Teaching and Quality Committee, receive the Departmental Reviews and Action Plans, and Faculty Overview (produced by the Assistant Deans) and look across the University s portfolio, using the full range of available data and taking a thematic approach as appropriate (for example, collaborative courses are considered collectively as well as in the context of the local Department s portfolio). The Academic Assurance Committee is a standing committees of the Board of Governors which will monitor the academic health of the University, incorporating some of the functions of the previous Academic Board. The Student Union produces an annual Student Voice Report based on a range of consultations with the wider student population. The report sets out broad aspirations, specifics issues of concern and also details progress made on previous years actions

Course Improvement Plans Course Improvement Plan: Academic Quality and Standards have set a baseline for the course improvement plan template and each College Assistant Dean for Student Experience has tailored the baseline template to their College's requirements. For apprenticeship provision, further information relating to key indicators of performance from Ofsted will be requested via an annex. Each of these will then form part of the evidence base for the University's Self- Assessment Report for Ofsted.
