Khumbulani Maphosa, a PhD Candidate and MIHR Director, is championing the rights to water, sanitation, housing, and a safe environment for slum dwellers in Zimbabwe. Despite the illegal status of slum settlements in Zimbabwean policies, the constitution recognizes basic rights like clean water and human dignity. The challenges faced by slum dwellers in Bulawayo, including lack of water services and contamination, highlight the urgent need for advocacy and action. The future outlook involves strengthening the SLUM ACTION MOVEMENT and promoting human rights-based approaches to water and sanitation services. This initiative is supported by partners like the World Health Organization.
