M arsuppium arrives to announce the prologue: T wo twin brothers, M enaechmus and S osicles, were separated when M enaechmus was kidnapped by pirates. S osicles, now named M enaechmus, travels the world in search of his brother who lives in E pidamnus. M istaken identity ensues as the citizens of E pidamnus confuse each twin for the other.
M enaechmus I pledges his love for his mistress E rotium and gives his wife s dress to her as a present.
M enaechmus II and his slave M essenio arrive in E pidamnus looking for the long-lost identical twin.
E rotium confuses M enaechmus II for her lover and invites him to lunch.
T he cook arrives to make dinner for E rotium and M enaechmus II.
M atrona, the wife of M enaechmus I, scowls with her maid A ncilla as she tries to find her husband and her dress.
T he singing lawyers arrive, complaining about their clients.
T he sailors-turned-tourists arrive at E rotiums house. D oes this place look familiar to you too?
M enaechmus II ponders whether he will actually return the dress and bracelet he promised to have altered.
M enaechmus I tries to come up with an excuse for losing M atrona s dress.
M atrona asks her father S enex and his platypus to help her figure out why her husband is acting so strangely
