3RDGRADE PSR REMOTE LEARNING CHAPTER 5 SUNDAY 18, OCT 2020
APOSTLES CREED READ ALOUD THE APOSTLE S CREED
WE LEARN ABOUT THE EARLY CHURCH Sit quietly for a moment, and say Jesus, softly and reverently (respectfully) 3 times Jesus asked us to use his name in prayer. He is with us when we honor his name. (See Matthew 18:20). We can say his name quietly at prayer at anytime. What a Beautiful Name by Hillsong: https://youtu.be/r5L6QlAH3L4
THIS WEEKS SAINT: SAINT LUKE Luke wrote the following books in the Bible: the Gospel according to Luke and the Acts of the Apostles We hear the story of the one grateful leper who is a Samaritan (Lk.17:11-19) Luke has been identified with St. Paul's "Luke, the beloved physician" (Colossians 4:14). We know few other facts about Luke's life from Scripture and from early Church historians. We have to go to Acts to follow the trail of Luke's Christian ministry. Luke's unique perspective on Jesus can be seen in the six miracles and eighteen parables not found in the other gospels. Luke's is the gospel of the poor and of social justice. He is the one who tells the story of Lazarus and the Rich Man who ignored him. Luke's gospel shows special sensitivity to evangelizing Gentiles. It is only in his gospel that we hear the parable of the Good Samaritan. we hear Jesus praising the faith of Gentiles such as the widow of Zarephath and Naaman the Syrian (Lk.4:25-27) Feast Day is October 18th Patron Saint of Surgeons and Physicians (resource: https://www.catholic.org/saints)
CHAPTER 5 READ ALOUD PAGES 52 & 43 Chapter 5 begins the Apostles following Jesus and their life with Jesus for 3 years. The disciples of Jesus share the Good News Key Words: ACTS OF THE APOSTLES, GOSPEL, MARTYRS Those who believed and accepted the Good News were baptized and became members of the Church. Where the Apostles traveled they told everyone about Jesus Christ. I encourage you to go get your bible and read this story: Acts of the Apostles 2:42 The work of the early church is told in the New Testament book Acts of the Apostles. We read that the early Christians listened to the teachings of the Apostles and looked after one another according to each one s need. (Acts of the Apostles 2:45) Another word for good news is GOSPEL Pentecost: The Apostles call the day on which the Holy Spirt came to them Pentecost . Like the first disciples, we are called to share the Gospel
CHAPTER 5 READ ALOUD PAGE 54 & 55 DON T FORGET TO READ THE AS CATHOLICS BOX Why did the Apostles chose new leaders for each place they visited?? - Because they had to move on to a new place and wanted the new community to continue. Saint Augustine had no purpose or meaning in growing up until he found God. The followers of Jesus stood up for their faith. Many of our Saints were martyrs. Martyrs are Christians who died for their faith. These saints may have lived a very long time ago, but their call to be holy is the same as ours. Many of our ancestors in faith are examples of holiness. Many of these people we also call them saints. Please complete the We Respond: Word Find and fill in the answers. Read about Saints Perpetua and Felicity
JESUS CALLS US TO BE HOLY You are too young to travel to tell others about Jesus Last week we accomplished a random act of kindness. What can you do to show others in our neighborhood and parish family that we are followers of Jesus Christ? We went over some things last week, can you remember what Jesus calls us to do? Can I challenge you to another? Are you willing to do something nice and unexpected for someone if the opportunity presents itself? Take time in your prayer space, and speak to God, ask Him if there is anything He wants you to do this week and if there is that He helps you recognize that opportunity when it does come. Another word we use to describe telling the Good News is Evangelization
