  8. Analyzing Genres What is a genre ? A genre is a category, particularly a category of an creation, like text, music, film, and more! Items within a certain genre will share similar characteristics, like style, organization/structure, design, or topic/focus. SLIDESMANIA.COM

  9. Analyzing Genres Genre analysis is a way of examining a type of writing so that you can become more familiar with that type. There are a few steps: 1. Collect examples of the genre. 2. Read through those examples and make notes about what similarities they share. 3. Implement those similarities into your own project. But how could ChatGPT help? SLIDESMANIA.COM

  10. Analyzing Genres Think of a genre that your field uses regularly. These might be things like lab reports, proposals, whitepapers, legal briefs, and so on. Write down some essential characteristics of this genre. Ask ChatGPT to do the same. Now compare your answers! (We ll do some together, no need to sign up for ChatGPT if you don t want to) Ask ChatGPT to produce a document of that genre apply your grading SLIDESMANIA.COM rubric or talk through your commenting process with your students.

Some considerations If you re thinking about incorporating some AI into your writing class, you will want to consider the following: If you ask students to use ChatGPT themselves, they will have to create an account (and thus give OpenAI access to their data) If using ChatGPT for your courses, focus on critical inquiry: if AI text is created, ask students to critique it SLIDESMANIA.COM

Take a few minutes Based on what you ve learned here today and what you know about ChatGPT, think of a way you could incorporate it into your class (no one will make you do so, but just think about how you could).
