  2. What should an elevator pitch contain? Purpose: An Elevator Speech is a short summary used to quickly and simply define a person, profession, product, service, organization or event and its value proposition. It is used as tool for rallying associate s support and commitment and helps the team create a consistent message for repeated reference throughout the project in written communications, presentations and dialogue with Associates. Timing: Either after agreement has been reached about the details of both need and vision, or as a precursor to more detailed discussion of the two. At a minimum, the team needs its elevator speech ready for the questions which will inevitably arise once the project is announced to the broader stakeholder base.

  3. When would an elevator pitch for a Peds Champion be needed? After a difficult or challenging pediatric case in the ED After an administrative review about pediatric volumes or acuity in your hospital During a staff meeting when there are prompts for educational or improvement ideas After or during a meeting that has decided on improving pediatric care in your ED

  5. Sample elevator pitch for pediatric champions What is this project about? The development of the role of a pediatric champion formalizes a position for a staff member to be responsible for education, supplies and the processes we have to handle pediatric emergencies when they walk in the door. Why is it important to do? The presence of a pediatric champion is the number one factor proven to improve a site s pediatric readiness score (sites with a lower score have a greater risk of having a child death than those sites that have higher readiness score). Nationally pediatric champions have turnover or lack of a defined position at an alarming rate Our site sees X% of al of our visits as pediatrics - we see kids also! (compare this to what percentage of trauma patients, or other patients you may see that have defined champions) What will success look like? An improved pediatric readiness score at our site Increased staff awareness and competencies in pediatric best practices Safer and better equipped ER for pediatric emergencies A sustainable pediatric education and improvement program that will ensure that kids always present to safe ER receiving the best care we can possibly provide What do we need from you? ADMIN: commitment that a pediatric champion is a defined position in ED leadership and education (funded or protected for time) ED Admin: create a position of pediatric champion under the umbrella of education of quality for the ED. Set annual goals related to pediatric readiness that get rolled up to hospital admin What can you expect from us? Updates on the improvements and best practices being adopted by the pediatric champion The pediatric champion to engage with the host of free national resources on creating a targeted plan for improvement for our site A measurement and improvement in our pediatric readiness score
