  2. Mighty Milers is open to and free for all U.S. schools. Also open to community centers and after school programs. About Mighty Milers Since 2004, Mighty Milers has helped hundreds of thousands of kids run millions of miles. Last school year over 150, 000 kids collectively ran over 5 million miles. The program is best suited for kids in grades K-8, but is open to all grades. Flexible & easy to implement Mighty Milers is inclusive to support children with physical and developmental challenges. The only requirement is that schools have 20 kids who will be in the program Student and staff progress is tracked on STRIDES (online database) Site staff will be trained and supported by NYRR

Mighty Milers sessions can be as short as 15 minutes Ways to implement Mighty Milers PE program Kids can run/walk in PE Classroom break teachers can take class out to run/walk as a classroom break 2 or more times a week. Recess structure your recess by having kids run/walk Mighty Milers is flexible to work with your environment and students. After school program kids can run/walk as a warm up to existing after-school sports or start a running club Warm up competing sports at sites makes it challenging to start a running program. Have kids run/walk as a warm up for other sports such as: soccer, basketball, cheer leading, etc.

  5. Program Lead A designated site staff to Lead Mighty Milers. Liaison between NYRR and your site Enroll students on STRIDES Data entry Track student miles Track their own miles on STRIDES Invite staff on STRIDES to assist with Mighty Milers Mighty Milers Site Staff The success of your Mighty Milers program depends on you. Program Assistant Site staff assisting Program Lead Create profile on STRIDES Track their own miles on STRIDES Track students miles on STRIDES Assist SC with data entry

  6. Enter participant rosters Enter participant miles Invite site staff to create a profile invited staff will receive an email with a link to create a profile on STRIDES. Staff with a profile on STRIDES can assist Program Lead with data entry and tracking miles throughout the school year.   7. 2015 -16 Incentive Plans Teacher Incentives Kids Incentive T-shirt Membership Card 1st Marathon Teacher Medal Tyvek bib T-shirt Kids and teacher can earn incentives during the school year by running at their site. Adults must enter kids miles along with their own miles in STRIDES. Incentives are automatically mailed to site when mileage level is achieved. Shoe pouch PVC Medal Banner Pen Reflective sticker Head bands Class Incentives Water bottle Poster Wrist strap key holder Dog tags

Earn up to $250 in rewards each season to spend on sports equipment, healthy snacks, or classroom supplies Site Rewards Program Physical Education & Special Needs Equipment Healthy Snacks & Classroom Supplies Rewards Levels - Bronze 5 Points - $50 - Silver 10 Points - $75 - Gold 15 Points - $125 Once a month, you will receive an email notification containing your site rewards status and information on how to claim any rewards your site may have earned in the previous month. 8

  9. Roster Rally Enter at least 20 kids on your Mighty Milers roster on STRIDES by November 6, and earn up to 20 hats/beanies for your Program Leads and Program Assistants. Sneaker Closet A school year initiative that provides active participants in Mighty Milers with an opportunity to receive a new pair of high-quality running sneakers. Program Leads can nominate kids during the school year. PROMOTIONS AND OTHER BENEFITS Guarantee marathon entry Each qualifying site may claim up to two guaranteed, non-complimentary marathon entries for the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon. Miles for Books Mighty Milers participants can earn books for their site by running as much as they can in the month of March. The more miles your students run, the more new books they earned for their site or library.
