  1. Practical Assessment Task (PAT) Grade 10 29 July 2020

  2. What is PAT? PAT stands for Practical Assessment Task. The PAT (Practical Assessment Task) in CAT (Computer Applications Technology) is an individual research project and involves extended independent work. It provides an opportunity to demonstrate your information management skills. You will also be required to demonstrate your ability to use the applications which you have studied during the year to produce quality outputs in the form of: TAKE NOTE: that the PAT is an important component in your year s marks. You need to complete the PAT on time; otherwise, it will affect your overall results.

  3. Structure Create a suitable folder structure Create a word-processing document Formulate a task definition Work with the given focus question Perform/carry out background research Draw up research questions to guide the process/research Identify sources to find quality information Gather and summarise relevant data and information Draw up and conduct a questionnaire/survey Capture original and completed questionnnaire(s) electronically Create an illustration (SmartArt graphic) of your folder structure Complete the Declaration of Authenticity for Phase 1 Hand in your Phase 1 document Phase 1 (Planning, sourcing and summarising of information sources) Design and use a spreadsheet to analyse your survey results and other data/statistics gathered Summarise the/your results for report Create at least two graphs Prepare your findings, conclusions and recommendations in your own words Create a report on your findings and recommendations Complete the Declaration of Authenticity for Phase 2 Hand in your Phase 2 spreadsheet and your final report Phase 2 (Capturing, processing, analysis of data and findings, conclusions and reporting)

  4. Understanding the Task In order for you to start with your PAT, you must understand what the topic is about, as well as what the task requires you to do. See next slide for topic>>>

  5. Topic: Digital Footprint Everyone who uses the Internet has a digital footprint. It is wise to consider what trail of data you are leaving behind in the online world. Understanding your digital footprint may prevent you from sending a hurtful email, since the message might remain online forever. It may also guide you to be more sensitive in what you publish on social media websites. While you can often delete content from social media sites, once digital data has been shared online, there is no guarantee you will ever be able to remove it from the Internet. The focus question that you are required to answer is: How does your digital footprint impact your life?

  6. Your task is to: Investigate how our digital footprint can have an impact on our lives, including examples, activities and tools for managing our digital footprint Ask/research questions that will assist you with your investigation: What is a digital footprint? How is a digital footprint created? How can you find your digital footprint? What are examples of a digital footprint? How is a digital footprint used? Why is it important to understand your digital footprint? What are the consequences of a digital footprint? How can you manage your digital footprint? What advice can you give to people about digital footprints? I have already done the research for you therefore this task is already done

  7. Task 1 READ through ALL of the sources I have sent and show that you understand why you are doing this investigation by defining the task. you must be able to describe what you will investigate and what you are required to do in your own words ( 150 words). Answer the following questions to help you write your own task definition. Use these questions as headings under which you insert your answers. 1. Why am I doing the investigation? Describe what the problem is you are focusing on (current situation) and what the final goal is that you want to achieve (purpose desired outcome). 2. What will the focus of my investigation be? Discuss which headings/focus areas your research will be about - give an overview of aspects to be investigated and covered. 3. How will I go about conducting the investigation? Indicate in broad terms how you will approach the task the steps/stages you are required to follow in each of the PAT phases. 4. Who is the information for? Who the target audience is. 5. How must I present the information? Which phases will be done in which applications? How will you present your information?

  8. Task 2 Use the Focus Question: How does your digital footprint have impact your life? to identify 10quality questions that will help you to find the data and information that you need. Come up with 3 headings that your questions will be under. (I will explain this using a voice note). Thereafter, Identify a source for EACH question. What this means is that you will research all of your 10 questions and then copy and paste the link for use later. If you want me to do research for your 10 questions, send me a message privately with all of the 10 questions. NB: There are many of you, therefore you have to be patient.

  9. That is it for nowmore tasks will be given to you later. Write everything on a piece of paper and when you return to school, you will simply copy everything. If you have a laptop, you can write your information there.
