Statewide Assessment Purpose Nebraska Statue 79.60.03 a) Determine how well public schools are performing in terms of achievement of public school students related to the state academic content standards; b) Report the performance of public schools based upon the results of state assessment instruments and national assessment instruments; c) Provide information for the public and policymakers on the performance of public schools; and d) Provide for the comparison among Nebraska public schools and the comparison of Nebraska public schools to public schools elsewhere.
Student Achievement and Growth Tenet A balanced assessment system that includes results from multiple sources is used to measure student growth and achievement towards Nebraska s content area standards. A balanced assessment system is a necessary component of the instructional process to improve learning and growth for each student.

NSCAS Formative Assessment Supports Network Expanding assessment literacy for all NE educators is key to the success of a Balanced Assessment System. The Nebraska Department of Education believes the formative assessment process is an integral part of a Balanced Assessment System. The formative assessment process is assessment for learning, conducted in the classroom to move learning forward.
