  1. Asking Research Questions: Focus on Cross-Cultural Research

  2. 1. descriptive - prevalence or frequency of a trait Example: What is the prevalence of false memory among Latino college students? 2. causal - causes of a behavior Four types of questions Example: Why does false memory occur among Latino students? 3. effect - directional Example: Do cultural values affect the occurrence of false memory? 4. relational - non-directional Example: What is the relation between the occurrence of false memory and ethnicity?

  3. Research question should be stated in a single sentence. Is there a relation between test anxiety and ethnicity?

  4. Do you have access to an appropriate sample? Is there research related to the question? Do you have the means to answer this question? Do I have access to prior research related to the question? Do I have the time required to answer the question? Do I have access to the tools necessary to answer the question? Scales Technology Too narrow: Is there a relation between ethnicity and arm tattooing? Sufficiently broad: Is the question too narrow? Is there a relation between ethnicity and tattooing?
