  1. CASE TAKING IN LOCAL MALADIES DR CHANDRA HASAN C M, M.D(Hom), ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, DEPT OF REPERTORY, SARADA KRISHNA HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICAL COLLEGE, KULASEKHARAM

  2. In the aphorisms 185 to 203 Hahnemann mentioned about local maladies. (treatment of local diseases surgical or non surgical or dynamic disease). Local maladies also considered under one sided diseases, they are of two varieties: a, Purely surgical cases. b, Non surgical or dynamic organismal changes or ailments that appear on the external parts of the body (ex) eczema. As per the concept of disease Homoeopathically there cannot be a disease which only affects as single part with out disturbing the whole economy. The name local malady was given because of its appearance on the external parts of the body. It

  3. signifies that the dynamic turmoil (disturbance) is localized to a particular part or expressed through a particular organ of the body. Regarding the treatment of the local diseases, our master further instructs all true medical treatment of a disease on an external part of the body, that has occurred from little or no injury from with out, must there fore, be directed against the whole, must effect amelioration and cure of the general malady by means of internal remedies. The investigation of case with local diseases along with the exact character if the local affections, all the changes , sufferings, and symptoms observable in the patients health are taken in conjunction to form a complete picture.

  4. The local affection should only be regarded as an inseparable part of the whole, as one of the most considerable and striking symptoms of the whole disease. So in the local maladies also detailed case taking is to be done in order to select an appropriate Homoeopathic remedy, which helps to eradicate the general morbid state of the body along with the local affection. The local maladies which have been produced solely by an external lesion should be treated with the help of surgery. The physician should look for the damage done to the organ or system, and should be handle the case accordingly by the mechanical means, (ex) by the reduction of dislocation , by

  5. needles and bandages to bring together the lips of the wounds, by mechanical pressure to stop the flow blood from arteries, by extraction of foreign bodies that have penetrated in to lining parts, by making a opening in to a cavity of the body in order to remove an irritating substances or to procure the evacuation of effusions or collection of fluids, by bringing in to opposition the broken extremities of a fracture bone and retaining them in exact contact by an appropriate bandage, etc. But in this above situation of injuries happened in living organism , it requires an active dynamic aide to put it in a position to accomplish the work of healing. Now there is a need for a care full case taking.

  6. In such cases all the effect of the external injury the vital force is deranging, and the symptoms like fever, pain, chilliness, thirst, appetite, sleep, dullness, restlessness, etc should be gathered by enquiring from the patient and attendants. Hence in such local diseases the totality includes the characteristics of the person and part. But regarding non surgical organismal local disease conditions, i.e., affection on a external part or a localized organ. The disease condition is due to an internal derangement. So a care full investigation is to be done as a whole and totality is to be erected and suitable Homoeopathic medicine is to be prescribed.
