This is a sacred story in Hinduism. It is a story about Prince Rama, the great warrior, who was married to the beautiful Sita. Rama and Sita were really gods in human form. Prince Rama meant to take over the throne from his father the king, but his wicked stepmother had tricked his father into sending him away into the forest. With him went his wife, Sita.
One day while walking in the forest, Rama and Sita came across a beautiful golden deer. Sita begged Rama to hunt the deer so she could keep it. Not wanting to disappoint his wife, Rama agreed and set off to capture the deer.
As soon as Sita was alone, Ravana presented himself to her as a wandering Holyman. When he had earned her trust, Ravana quickly changed form and kidnapped Sita, taking her by chariot off to his land.
When Rama returned from his journey, he found his darling wife had disappeared. He searched the forest for days and days but could not find her. Rama called on the help of Hanuman the monkey King who was the son of the wind God. Hanuman was able to tell Rama where Sita was. He took a huge, running jump and, with a single bound, leapt over the sea to the land of Ravana. He found Sita in the palace garden and she was so happy to see him she gave him her ring to give to Rama.
Hanuman hurried back to Rama with news of Sita s find. They gathered a huge army of monkeys and began to construct a bridge across the sea so they could safely reach Sita. Waiting for them on the other side was an army of evil demons. A monstrous battle followed and many of Hanumans friends were injured and killed. Hanuman noticed Rama lying among the injured and quickly flew across the land to find some herbs that would cure him. Not only did the herbs cure Rama, but all those wounded.
It was finally time for Rama to face Ravana. Using a special bow granted to him by the sky God, Rama struck Ravana in the heart. Ravana fell to the ground, finally defeated. On hearing the cheers and shouts of joy, Sita joined her husband and their friends and rode back home on a swan to be crowned King and Queen.
