  1. MEMORY BOOK Mrs. Brunner April 2017

  2. HOW I WANT TO BE REMEMBERED How would you like to be remembered by others? Think about the different people who have and will come in and out of your life how do you hope to influence them? What impact do you hope to leave on those you meet? Could relate to school, your career, your family, friendships, future goals and ambitions Should be at least 4 sentences long and explain how you want to be remembered and why.

  3. EXAMPLE I want to be remembered as a teacher who made a positive impact in the lives of her students. I want to be remembered as a caring sister, daughter, wife, teacher, granddaughter, niece, cousin, friend, etc. I want to be remembered as the perfect mix of sarcastic, thoughtful and responsible. I hope that when people think of me, they think of someone who put everything she had into everyday she lived regardless of whether or not she would be recognized for it. This is my hope because my family and my students are what matter the most to me. I hope that I leave a lasting impression on each of them as well as others who cross my path throughout my lifetime.

  4. COVER Give your memory book a creative title. (What would your autobiography be called?) NOT Mrs. Brunner s Memory Book you can do better! The cover page should include (at least one) picture of you (can be more than one or a collage) It must also include the date you turn in your book (May 1, 2017) It must include your first and last name (feel free to include middle name or initial as well) Make it colorful and decorate it any way you choose Can be done by hand or on the computer

  5. MEMORABLE QUOTE What is a quote (from a movie, a song, a family member, or a famous person: athlete, actor, historical figure) that you would like to always remember? This should be a quote that you feel will be applicable to you throughout your lifetime (a lesson, a reality check, meaningful in some way) The quote should be cited correctly and appropriate for school Quotation marks at end and beginning, period at end. Person s name (and name of movie or song it is from, if applicable) punctuated correctly, underneath it Does NOT have to be a quote about memories can be about anything! This is the LAST page of your book!

  6. MY MEMORABLE QUOTE Take care of all your memories, for you cannot relive them. -Bob Dylan

  7. MEMORY RAINBOW For each color of the rainbow, you must write a memory sentence or a series of memories that is/are associated with that color. Be sure to mention the color in the memory if the connection is not obvious. Please color the rainbow and decorate it If you would like to create a good copy that is completely computer generated, feel free to do so Be sure to include the following colors starting from the largest bow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple Example sentence: I remember when I vacationed with my family in Mexico and the water was so clear BLUE, I could see my feet no matter how far out I went.

  8. MEMORY HAND Imagine you were going to lose all of your memories except for one which one would you choose to keep??? The memory should be of a specific event/moment, not a general person or place Your memory should be displayed in your traced hand to signify that it is something special that you want to hold onto forever. For this, you should simply trace your hand with a marker and type/paste or neatly handwrite your memory inside. The final product should be visually appealing using color and/or decorations It should be 3+ sentences (describe the memory in detail, explain why is it important) The title of this page should be: (Your first name s) Memory

  9. MEMORY GRAPH Brainstorm the ten most significant things that have happened in your life (good, bad, painful, sad.) Summarize each one with a phrase: Grandpa passed away , Got our dog Maple , etc. After you have determined your 10 events, you will place your events on a graph. The graph is meant to help you reflect on the major events of your life and mark the highs and lows, just as Jonas is able to determine the positive memories and negative memories that he gets from The Giver. EVENTS SHOULD BE IN SEQUENTIAL ORDER OF HOW THEY HAPPENED!!! You should not rank more than two events the same number You may do this neatly on graph paper (by hand) or on the computer Give your graph a title at the top

  10. GRAPH EXAMPLE

  11. FOREWORD Use your memory book assignment sheet as a guide to write a summary of the memory book assignment in your own words. It should be personal and it should be at least one solid paragraph long (4 or more sentences.) Your goal is to explain the assignment so that when you look at your memory book many years from now, you will remember why you made it as well as be reminded of this current time in your life. You must include: What a memory is to you How the memory book connects to Lois Lowry s The Giver The class you are reading it in The year involved with this assignment (2017) An important quote or summary point from the novel cited correctly

  12. FOREWORD EXAMPLE A memory is the power or process of remembering and the storing of things remembered. The reason for making this memory book is to help myself remember memories from my childhood when I am older. This is just like the book, The Giver, which we finished reading in my 7thgrade Reading class with Miss Van Ness (2015.) The people in this community do not have memories. Eventually, the main character Jonas, leaves the community because he wants to live a life with memories and wants the ones he received to flood back to the people. When I am older I don t want to forget any memories because they are all special. As The Giver tells Jonas, Memories are forever (Lowry, 144). This book will help me remember special memories and people when I am older.

  13. MEMORY MEMOIR Creative title in quotation marks Quotation marks around the title Write in present tense (as if you are reliving the memory, you are journaling as you are experiencing it) Must be written about a significant memory you have Should not be over the course of more than one day (not an entire vacation, etc.) Use multiple paragraphs (not one, long ramble) At least 200 words, typed

  14. BRACE FACE I m walking into the orthodontist right now to get my braces on. I m feeling a little nervous. I m still waiting to be called into the room. My mom and I are talking now. I ask her how long it will probably take. She says a while. Now, I finally get called back. I tell my mom to come with me. So now I m sitting in the room with all these things in my mouth. I m managing to ask my mom to get my phone from the car. I m waiting, now for the orthodontist to put on my braces. Now, first, they are putting on the glue. My tongue is being held back by this red squishy thing so the glue doesn t get wet and I m swallowing so much saliva. It s been about 1 hours now and the orthodontist and his assistant are still working in my mouth. I am playing a game on my phone. And now I am sending a picture to a few of my friends of the things in my mouth. Finally, the orthodontist is putting the wires in. It s finally over now after about 2 hours. I am leaving the orthodontist and my teeth hurt a little. Since there is a Wawa right next door, my mom takes me to get a milkshake. My mouth is still numb so the milkshake is dripping down my mouth and I can t feel even feel it. I tell my mom about the weird feeling and we are cracking up the whole ride home.

  15. MEMORABLE PICTURES AND CAPTIONS You need 5-10 pictures total: you must be in every picture, but other people can be with you. They should be pictures of you throughout your lifetime. You will need to give each picture a title. You will need to explain WHO is in the picture. If there are people other than you, make sure you explain their relationship to you. Explain WHAT is happening in the picture. Explain WHY the picture was taken (why it is important). Describe WHEN the picture was taken. Provide as much information as possible (month/date/year). Explain WHERE the picture was taken. Be specific. This section can take up more than one page of your Memory Book. Please use your graphic organizer to help formulate your captions (this will be turned in as well!)

  16. ARE WE READY?! This picture of my husband and I and was taken on July 11, 2015. It was taken by our wedding photographer on the grounds of Knowlton Mansion in Philadelphia, PA. This picture was taken to capture our first look. I didn t want to cry walking down the aisle, so we decided to have a first look before the ceremony. This picture shows the excitement and nervousness we felt about an hour before we got married!

  17. FAB 50 5 lists of 10 or 10 lists of 5 (or a combination of the two) must be 50 total! Think of all your favorite things collectively either from your entire life, or presently (favorite movies of all time, or favorite current songs, etc.) You create the categories Organize your lists Type final copy and add pictures and color *Make sure to CORRECTLY punctuate titles of books, TV shows, movies etc. This can take up more than one page

  18. FAVORITE PLACES I HAVE BEEN 1. Asheville, North Carolina 2. Taos, New Mexico 3. Nashville, Tennessee 4. The Grand Canyon, Arizona 5. London, England

  19. AUTOGRAPH PAGE You must get at least 10 messages and signatures from family members, friends, teachers, or peers 2+ sentences each (some people might want to write much more!) and must be signed by the person who wrote it You can create a collage of post-its or notes, or have people write directly on a sheet of paper (like an autograph page in a yearbook) Each comment must be kind and positive so that you can look back on this time in your life and remember the important people in your life A memory, an inside joke, what you like about that person, a note to show love/friendship

  20. AUTOGRAPH EXAMPLE Dear Charlie, You are such a funny guy! Thanks for always making me laugh and being such a thoughtful friend. I will never forget the time you helped me study for the huge Social Studies exam. You re someone I can always count on! Always, Sally
