A team of students from Colegiul Tehnic Danubiana Roman undertook various environmental projects, including measuring Earth's radius using Eratosthenes' method, constructing Horizontal/Garden Sundials, and exploring main environmental problems related to pollution. The students focused on sources, types, and effects of pollution, highlighting solutions such as renewable energy sources. Their initiatives aimed to raise awareness and propose concrete actions to mitigate environmental challenges.

  1. Colegiul Tehnic Danubiana Roman S.A.R.A.H S.A.R.A.H Comenius Comenius project project Meeting in Graz 27.04 1.05.2014

  2. 1. Measuring Earths radius using Eratosthene s method A team of students from our school made the experiment and you are going to watch a short movie with the results of their work.

  3. 2. Horizontal/Garden Sundials The steps taken by the students from Danubiana Technical College were: - they decided to make a sundial called the Horizontal/Garden Sundial - they settled the dimensions of the sundial and the pattern of the plate ( 1,5 m) and they decided that the gnomon must be movable and the calendar positions must be determined for each day s gnomon location.

  4. We used these papers to verify our future sundial

  5. - they found the right location for the sundial - they made a simulation to see if the sundial is functional - the building of the sundial is going to start after the meeting in Graz and you will be able to see the result You will see !!!

  6. 3. Suggestions for the following year of the project (students should make presentations or short movies) 1. MAIN ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS. POLLUTION. Sources of pollution. TYPES OF POLLUTION ( air, soil, water, light, noise, radioactive pollution ); pollution in different areas.

  7. EFFECTS OF POLLUTIONS: DEFORESTATION FLOODS Forest Fires, Marine Pollution, LANDSLIDES DESERTIFICATION IN CERTAIN AREAS OF THE COUNTRY Water shortage Waste Traffic jam (emissions) Climate change Extreme weather events Each partner school should describe the effects of pollution on their country with real examples, statistics and specific solutions.

  8. SOLUTIONS for each country: Renewable energy sources specific in each country (unconventional energy) New ways of private transportation electric cars (unconventional energy) Ways of saving energy etc

  9. Other activities Eco online Dictionary in 9 languages Products from waste (making artistic objects from waste) Eco carnival (eco-fashion show) A green festival including song, dance and poems and a final international green conference. Recycling campaign Ten rules to save environment The 10 commandments of clever use of energy

  10. Posible experiments Measuring of energy consumption at school and comparing it for all 6 countries. Comparing consuming profiles. Show consequences and alternatives Collective transportation compared to private transportation. Cost benefit analysis. CO2 effect.
