  3. What is the Motivational Letter? A motivation letter is more about your future study plans and how the Bachelor s you are applying to is going to help you achieve your goals. Prepared by Keeling Small, Cyril Lusuegro & Deborah Watson-Small

  4. What is the Personal Statement? It is more about promoting yourself, aka why you are the right candidate for a given undergraduate degree. This is an opportunity to demonstrate you have the skills, knowledge & experience to succeed on this course. It is an opportunity for the admission tutor to find out more about you, your academic achievements, your interests and your motivation(s) for studying at Higher Education level.   5. What a student should be doing now to write an impressive personal statement and or motivational letter? Which skills are relevant for your course? (logical & critical thinking, research skills, initiative, time management, communication, leadership, teamwork, self discipline, analytical abilities etc.) What should I be doing now to ensure I am developing these skills? (clubs & societies, high quality assignments/research & submit them on time, community outreach, student council & work experience/ internship in relevant field).   6. What a student should be doing now to write an impressive personal statement and or motivational letter? Ensure that you are doing the correct combination of subjects that links to career choice. (Medical doctor-Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics & Biology).   9. Components of Personal Statement: Introduction Why do you want to study the course? What interests you about the subject area? What aspirations do you have, further to university study? Academic achievements/subjects studied at level 3 (AS and A2 levels etc.) Write about your academic achievements (skills and knowledge) Work experience/employment/volunteering Write skills that you have gained from work experience, employment and/or volunteering and how these experiences prepare you for university study. Components of Personal Statement: Extra-Curricular activities/awards (e.g. a First Aid course or STEAM club) Mention any other achievements or extra-curricular activities that demonstrate you have the relevant skills for the course you are applying to. Conclusion Finish with a brief summary. Why should you be offered a place? Remember what the admissions tutors are looking for and leave them with a good impression.
