This document discusses key concepts related to NPCA (Neighbor-Primary Channel Announcement) and Virtual Access Points (APs) in the context of IEEE 802.11 standards. It covers topics such as multiple BSSID sets, co-hosted APs, NPCA primary channel configurations, and criteria for channel switching. The content emphasizes the importance of maintaining consistent configurations among APs to enable efficient frame exchanges and channel switching dynamics.

  2. 05/10/2024 Doc.: IEEE 802.11-24/0858r0 Recap: Virtual AP An AP device can include multiple virtual APs belonging to one multiple BSSID set. All the APs belonging to a multiple BSSID set share the same operating class, channel, receive/transmit antenna connector Only the AP with transmitted BSSID transmits the Beacon frames. All the virtual APs have the same primary channel. 11ax defines the co-hosted APs in an AP device by co-hosted BSSID set. All the APs belonging to a co-hosted BSSID set share the same operating class, channel, receive/transmit antenna connector Each co-host AP broadcasts its Beacon. All co-hosted APs have the same primary channel. Submission Slide 2 Liwen Chu et al (NXP)

  3. 05/10/2024 Doc.: IEEE 802.11-24/0858r0 Recap: NPCA An AP enabling NPCA announces the NPCA primary channel where when the primary channel becomes busy because of the OBSS activity, the AP and its associated STA switch to the NPCA primary channel to do the frame exchanges until the end of the OBSS activity. The AP may announce the threshold so that when the duration of the OBSS activity is smaller than the announced threshold, the AP and its associated STAs will not switch to the NPCA primary channel to do the frame exchanges. Submission Slide 3 Liwen Chu et al (NXP)

  4. 05/10/2024 Doc.: IEEE 802.11-24/0858r0 NPCA Primary Channel and Multiple BSSID The APs that belong to a multiple BSSID set and enable NPCA need to have the same NPCA primary channel. This is because that all such APs share the same receive/transmit antenna connector. Submission Slide 4 Liwen Chu et al (NXP)

  5. 11/10/2023 Doc.: IEEE 802.11-24/0858r0 NPCA Operation and Multiple BSSID The criteria to switch from the primary channel to NPCA primary channel need to be same for all APs that belong to a multiple BSSID set and support the switch, e.g. OBSS activity threshold for the switch. Submission Slide 5 Liwen Chu et al (NXP)

  6. 05/10/2024 Doc.: IEEE 802.11-24/0858r0 NPCA Primary Channel and Co-Hosted APs The APs that belong to a co-hosted BSSID set and enable NPCA need to have the same NPCA primary channel. This is because that all such APs share the same receive/transmit antenna connector. Submission Slide 6 Liwen Chu et al (NXP)

  7. 11/10/2023 Doc.: IEEE 802.11-24/0858r0 NPCA Operation and Co-Hosted APs The criteria to switch from the primary channel to NPCA primary channel need to be same for all APs that belong to a co- hosted BSSID set and support the switch, e.g. OBSS activity threshold for the switch. Submission Slide 7 Liwen Chu et al (NXP)

  8. 05/10/2024 Doc.: IEEE 802.11-24/0858r0 Summary The NPCA primary channel announced by the APs belong to a multiple BSSID set and a co-hosted BSSID set needs to be same. The criteria announced by the APs belong to a multiple BSSID set and a co-hosted BSSID set needs to be same. Submission Slide 8 Liwen Chu et al (NXP)

  9. 05/10/2024 Doc.: IEEE 802.11-24/0858r0 SP 1 Do you support that all the APs in a multiple BSSID set that enable NPCA announce the same NPCA primary channel? Submission Slide 9 Liwen Chu et al (NXP)
