  7. Edgar Allan Poe My father vanished because he was jealous of my mother s success in the acting scene. My mother left this earth when I was of only 3 years old. This traumatic experience led me to cry for 24 straight hours. However, I still believed she sat at the end of my bed every night watching me. I was adopted by John Allan and his wife. Mr. Allan owned a tobacco business. Not only did I live in Virginia before leaving my hometown of Boston, I lived in Scotland and England for a time.
